The man and woman in this song are looking for a romantic encounter that transcends time and tragedy. But life has gotten the best of them. He sees himself as young Romeo, but he's a caricature of that. Same with the woman. It's been a long time since she's been the young innocent Juliette type. The contrast between Romeo and Rhinocerous and Juliette and Gigantic are so startling to me that they immediately bring an image to mind. It's not a pleasant image, mind you, but it sure is effective (for me). melanie ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Aug 1999 23:42:08 GMT From: Krista Subject: Re: my mom has come to her senses! Whale Music was the first Rheo album I ever bought. Although now I count it as one of my all-time favorite CD's, it *did* take me a while to get into. That's the problem I've had with introducing people to the Rheo's: the person has to be prepared to actively *listen* to the music. Some of the songs (Queer, Boozehounds and Drugheads) really grab you with the first listen, but others require a lot more listening. A lot of people turn on a CD and say, "OK, entertain me.". When you listen to a Rheo's album, you almost have to meet the music half way. That's why it's difficult (in my experience, at least) to introduce people to the Rheostatics. Hmmm...does this make any sense, or am I just babbling? I think its an awesome idea, and I would at some point like to contribute, I just can't make myself sit still and quiet long enough to contemplate. However, its an awesome exercise for exorcising my writer's block so I'll just have to spend Sunday working on a few songs. It's interesting, reading these threads on Fly and Indy Day and Bed & Breakfast and such makes me think to book clubs, where people choose or are given a book to read and at the next meeting everyone shares their thoughts and interpretations... now all we need is a clever name and another sister website to FDC or maybe a sister forum to ammf or... heehee sorry, getting carried away. I do like the concept, tho. I just need to pick a song that's been whispering in the back of my mind that can use some interpretive discussion (unfortunately, Splatter^2 and Earthquakes are the only ones earwormed and they are pretty much straight forward... of course, I could fix that...) Another project I plan to undertake... compilation tapes. Dave Songs, Jian Songs, Mike Songs, and Murray Songs. Probably in a swelling semblance of order... starting slow, peaking with the more upbeat and energetic songs, the finishing with more of the mellow and contemplative. Actually, it just started with wanting a tape of all Dave songs (seeing as I _am_ a Mathesonite), but it would be interesting to hear the groupings for each (too bad the Murray Songs collection will be so short... *HINT HINT*) That's all for tonight, I think. perhaps I'll find time to be introspective and literary and all that fun stuff! *hugs* - --SnarkiFru ps-- oh and um, luella... /me raises an questioning eyebrow darling, the free crack is bad... avoid the free crack, it makes one say things... ...there's a difference between knowing the path and wlking the path... - --Morpheus The Matrix ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Aug 1999 01:06:03 GMT From: Brent & Marianne Miller Subject: FruCon3 If there's going to be a FruCon3, it's now less than 6 months away. The Romeo in the song is probably a bit more of a Don Juan. Just looking for a short relationship (ie A Bed and Breakfast one-nighter). That's all that Juliette wants too but they fall in love. Which is obviously not what was wanted by either. That where "Shouldn't have wanted more" come into the song. That wouldn't really make sense however unless you figure in "She knows the glove on the hand in her lap conceals a wedding ring." This had me confused for a bit. First I thought that it meant that Romeo has a secret wish to marry her and is afraid to admit it. Then I realized that it probably means that Romeo is secretly married and wants to have an affair. Juliet knows this of course but goes along anyway because that's what she wants. They wanted more then they bargained for because, presumably, they fell in love and now Romeo has to deal with the other realtionship. Anyhow it's a bit of a warm night and my brain is fried so I'm babbeling. (anyone ever hear that song?) Melanie wrote in message ...
