I just have to add my 2 cents--this is sooooo cool! I've been really hoping the band would come to IA--and now it is not only coming, but to an all-ages venue. We'll have a carload going up to Ames (about 30 minutes) --mine-- and as many more as can be arranged. This is so outstandingly exciting! I just got introduced to EFO and Susan Werner this summer and plan to see both of them at the _earlier_ dated shows. I think that one way to get them back might be to encourage those individuals who book shows for other venues to see this Nov event in Ames ... ??? What's happening to that town since I left it? It's official. I was listening to WEBX this morning on the way to the State Fair and they were playing the same old songs, sans-dj-and-commercials. On the way home in the afternoon, I switched to 93.5 and heard a commercial for Illini football season tickets, then "X...93.5... extreme rock, extreme radio," then _Smells Like Teen Spirit_. Sounded like a nail in the coffin to me. It's like The Planet without the perpetual mindless chatter. Who is going to play Fruvous? I just keep hoping it will catch on. Unfortunately, due to the hot and sunny climate, it's really not practical until about December. I guess I'm just starting to wish for a change of season these days. I kinda miss that brisk autumn air, the smell of fireplaces, raking the leaves, bringing in the porch furniture, cleaning out the rain gutters, putting on the storm windows, bleeding the radiators, gassing up the *&#@! snow blower, etc. (OK. They were founded solely on good looks and marketable personality. They went so far to make them marketable as to give them each their own "Spice Name"...just like the different Barbies have their own names. From what I've read (I can't even remember if it was a reliable source, but it prolly was, since I read it at the station), "they" actually had to give a couple of the girls singing lessons--and I'm not talking about the professional kind, either. They were hired because of image only. And when you hear one of their songs being played, just listen to how much darn processing their voices have. It's kinda sad, but you gotta admit that they did create a great marketing buzz. - --Novac ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Aug 1999 23:37:00 -0700 From: cookie Subject: Re: Are You "Alt"?
