Get the feeling I could talk about this for ages? :) I'll jump on board! I used to work at a toy company that licensed Sesame Street and the Muppets, so I dealt with people at CTW pretty much daily. I find it amazing that the *characters* are different from country to country, too! (i.e. Big Bird doesn't exist in the South American version. They have a big blue dodo-looking bird instead.) I need to share a VERY funny story about Toy Fair 1998. One of the nights, CTW had a big party at FAO Schwartz in NY for all the licensees. Since Sleep-n-Snore Ernie was the biggest toy of the holiday season in 1997, and Tickle Me Elmo was the best seller of 1996, the muppets put on a live show making fun of Les what's-his-name (the head of Tyco.) So, not only did I get to see Ernie in REAL LIFE, (He's really BIG.) but Elmo picked a fight with Ernie and started SWEARING at the Les puppet when he showed favoritism toward Ernie. Elmo started calling Ernie all kinds of profane names and said he only sleeps so much because he's drunk. It was HYSTERICAL! No one was really expecting that, and even the CTW employees were crying from laughing so hard! One other pretty cool muppet-related story from Toy Fair 1998. When we took our meeting with our account manager at the Jim Henson Company, we had the meeting in Jim Henson's actual office. I totally teared up when they told me it was his office. It's exactly as it was when he was there. It's got a stained-glass window of Bert and Ernie, and a really cool life-sized paper moose head over his fireplace. Somehow, it really didn't seem right to be holding a meeting in this pseudo-shrine/museum. However, it was probably the highlight of that business trip. (Well, either that, or my visit to the Dakota.)
