Everyone else I'd think to recommend to them, they've already heard. And I'd also recommend Domestic Problems to any fan of live music :-) They put on an incredibly entertaining show. The band is pretty big, six people or so. Lead vox/guitars, Keys/backing vox, Drums, electric bass, and a two-man horn section with a trombone player that doubles on the mandolin from time to time and a saxes player who occasionally picks up a rockin' flute (complete with a B foot, surprisingly enough). This, however, I have to comment on. My comment: it's b.s. I've seen how this whole thing has been portrayed, and the weekend was not *nearly* as aweful and unorganized as everyone wants you to believe. Yes, I hear that they were charging $4 for water. Frankly, I wouldn't know, because never over the course of the weekend did I have to buy any: You could bring in as much as you wanted, and there were faucets and fountains all over the place where you could refill over the course of the day. Yes, occiasionally the water at one location was turned off, but there were *several* other places you could go to get it if you needed it, without having to pay anything. In fact, there was really no need for you to buy anything other than your ticket. You could bring in food, drinks, water--all the necessities. Were the potties gross? Absolutely. Were they "overflowing with human waste after the first day"? No. OK, maybe by Friday night you wouldn't seek onr out unless you absolutely *had* to, but you know what? They cleaned them Saturday and Sunday. OF course they were still gross-- such is the nature of the port-o-pottie-- but they were tolerable. I'm sorry, but the craziness that went on Sunday night cannot be blamed on water or bathroom conditions. It was 150,000 (at that point-- lots of people had left) young folks who had been given candles right before the Red Hot Chille Peppers went on. And it started as a few harmless bonfires that were actually pretty darn cool at the time. But of course, as things do, it escalated, and all hell broke loose. For my part, I had an amazing time at Woodstock, and whatever kind of shadow anyone tries cast over the event won't change that. And since I know there are people here who might be curious: Guster put on a great set. In fact, they looked quite surprised at the number of people who came out to see them, and kept commenting on how happy they were. It was charming ;-) It was also the drummer's birthday, so some of the die-hards in the front couple of rows who knew that spontaneously began singing to him ;-) They were actually the only second stage act I got to see, but the impression I got is that they had a really good turn out for that stage, given that they were the first band on that day. It was obviously a "Goldfly"-heavy crowd, as these were songs that got everyone jumping and dancing. I liked them lots ;-) Elvis Costello played on Sunday, and after spending much of Saturday up close-ish to the stage, we decided to spend Sunday just back on the lawn. I only know 2 of his songs (blaspheme, I know-- don't burn me at the stake-- I survived one set of fires already, thankyouverymuch ;-)-- Allison and Veronica- and he played both of them ;-) But I still thought he put on a great performance, and was really funny and entertaining. Unfortunately, back where I was there was only like 4 other people who seemed as equally entertained, I suppose because they were waiting for that master wordsmith, Jewel, who was up immediately afterwards, to take the stage. ;-P But the crowd up front, that *he* could see, were obviously MUCH more receptive and having a great time. And for the record, there were *lots* of Canadians there. Which begs the question-- do you people *always* have a flag on hand? Because behind those bandanas tied around people's heads and pot, Canadian flags were like the number three accessory of the weekend. We were actually camped next to 6 very nice Canuck boys-- 4 from St. Catharine's (isn't soemone here form there?) and 2 from Toronto-- who spent the better part of an hour telling us all the stupid questions American had asked them over the course of the weekend ("Do you drive on the wrong side of the road?" "Do you ski to school?") We were amused ;-) OK, I'm going to end this before it gets even more obnoxiously long, but just felt the need to throw in a few of my own cents. ~jen - -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Nobody likes you when you're 23." --Blink 182 "Do you know that you are very strong?"-- Grover "Measure your life in love."-- Rent Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Share what you know. Amazing combination of Beatlesque melodies, funkiness, and humor (try "The Pants"). For (Fruvous and) TMBG fans especially. The Chenille Sisters If you like Christine Lavin (and Fruvous), you'll love the Chenille Sisters. Gorgeous harmonies, many funny songs (perhaps a bit on the hokey side), and charming, fun, incredibly entertaining concerts. They're based in Michigan and mostly tour around the midwest. Greenberry Woods There's that Beatlesque thing again. If you like "Gotta Get a Message to You"-type material, these guys will knock you out. The Kennedys I first heard them at FRFF just two weeks ago and have been listening to ANGEL FIRE nonstop since. Crazy guitar work and great, exuberant performances. And I have to mention some bands you HAVE heard of: XTC, the Roches, the Nields, Eddie from Ohio, Elvis Costello, and don't forget: the Beatles On a related note, what do folks think of Ween? They've been at the periphery of my musical consciousness for years, but I haven't heard much of the music since that daisy song years ago. Worth buying? or too sophomoric?
