It was an article on books that changed your life. Jian's pick was "Love in the Time of Cholera" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez (sorry if I spelled that wrong), saying that he was a romantic at heart (and that any girl that goes out with him has to love this book - honestly, it says that!!!). It also promoted Thornhill (yeah!). And it had the current promo picture of Jian. I can't get onto the web right now, but Now has a website at http://www.now.com if anyone wants to see if the article is online. I'll check tonight when I'm at home. Hello fellow Fruvians...I know I've fallen off the face of the earth for a few months, and I really haven't been keeping up with the NG; But here I am scanning the latest Digest - and I see my OWN name! Too weird. Anyway, Hi Misty! I don't really have an answer to your question because the men of fru have always been nothing but respectful, caring and not too extraordinarily strange in my presence. *smile* I find each of them to be men of integrity and would probably trust one of them over many other ppl I know. Granted, their individual senses of humour are a little 'over the top' at times and can be misread (i.e. Jian's "Dark-meat" comment during the FRFF tent song [...it took me nearly an hour to convince someone there that the comment wasn't meant in a racially hateful way! {Ji, you troublemaker you!! *laugh*}] ). Anyway, my humble thoughts - take everything they say/do at or after a show with a dash of humour - Don't you know that 'rock stars' are inherently weird to begin with??! *smile* - the 'other' Misty [primarily known online as Maige] > Date: Thu, 05 Aug 1999 05:04:19 GMT > From: misty > Subject: experiences W/ fru > > okay so i know many of you have soo many funny or quirky experiences > having to deal with fruvous. By LEAH RUMACK It's summertime. You're going to read. This summer, you swear, you're going to read. But what? You're afraid of the new Chapters. You don't understand the book reviews in trashy alternative weeklies. And, goddammit, The Blair Witch Project doesn't come in paperback. So to help you in your quest, NOW asked a motley crew of Toronto personalities what their favourite books are and why. This is what they said. JIAN GHOMESHI Moxy Früvous It was inevitable: the scent of bitter almonds always reminded him of the fate of unrequited love. Gabriel Garcia Marquez Love In The Time Of Cholera Jian Ghomeshi is a singer, songwriter and tin-whistle-blower in poppy Toronto sensation Moxy Früvous, who made their name by weaving music, politics and humour into five hit albums. But this professional political satirist admits it: he always writes the sappy love songs. You know, the ones about being on Ferris wheels and holding hands and healing her pain. Which is why he chose Love In The Time Of Cholera, the story of a man's 50-years-pining heart. "This makes me madly self-conscious, because maybe I'll be seen as the lightweight romantic I am," he says, "but I remain a hopeless and hopeful romantic to the nth degree. Throw in every bad cliche and that's me. This book provides me with with my empirical blueprint for the notion of true love." Ghomeshi goes on to suggest that anyone who allows him- or herself to cry during, for example, an Eight Is Enough episode should read it. The band's next album -- Thornhill -- will be released August 24. And all the gushing gal Früheads out there should know that Ghomeshi can only date women who like this book. But please note: he recently appeared at the Falconbridge Festival in New York in a skintight Britney Spears T-shirt, for which he was accused of being gay. Sigh.
