I was not talking about those in WBER or other territories. This comment was made in relation to the anticipated show at The Point; although 'XPN has yet to disclose info on this, it seems likely that it will be a members-only thing - which will surely disappoint those unable to obtain tickets because they are not members. But it's just the kind of thing that I pay to support. Many more of us may be disappointed if this turns out to be a "Special Producers of the World Cafe" show, in which case only those really high rollers will get in. I do support WXPN well, but not at the $1,000 level, as I have other things like Greenpeace (globally) and various animal shelters (locally) that I also support - in addition to a mortgage, car payments, groceries, etc. :-) > also remember that it costs a minimum of $50 to join > 'XPN (and i'd imagine there are similar fees for the > others) and some of us with limited resources prefer > to use them to see früvous live and directly profit > them :). Actually, I just verified with Member Services that the minimum membership is a student membership for $25, which does entitle one to a member card and all the perks that come with it. Of course, I've never heard them mention this on air since they would undoubtedly prefer to get people in at the "minimum" $50 level. I, too, like the idea of support the band directly and go to see them whenever they are conveniently in the area. But if people with "limited resources" can afford to drive up and down the east coast many times in a year and buy tickets for all the concerts and festivals as I read accounts of on the newsgroup, I think $25 or $50 to WXPN would be affordable as well. > there are a million wonderful reasons to support > public radio. the fact that früvous gets played on it > is just one of them. > > ~~kate, an 'XPN member by the generosity of her > parents who renew her membership every year for her > birthday And I think that is great! It is a terrific birthday present, and generous of you to support the station in that way. I'm not trying to be confrontational here, Kate, just explaining my point of view. I'll be at the OC show on 8/16 in the third row - hope to see you and all the local Fruheads there! Cheers! gingee P.S. ROFLMAO! Damnit Woodward that's too funny. Except when one starts hearin g the girl actually *doing* that. And then it's... sick and twisted in a bad way. Actually if they wanted to put Peace of Mind/Buy Our Disc in (which would make the greatest opening track to an album) I'd like to request the never-recorded version from July 1 1997 at Harbourfront, where it sort of collided with the Canadian anthem and was really great.. except I can never remember most of it. There wasn't a workshop (although Mike and Jian were talking about joining F'loom [or some name similar] in a workshop on storytelling on Sunday). Yes, I was there. There was much rain. The hippies rejoiced. The hippies danced their crazy hippie dances, and so did Jason, Susan and Kent's son :) Unfortunately, as I'm REALLY not a review person, this post will have to do. Fruvous did a basic "We are Moxy Fruvous" set, high energy, at least on behalf of Jian and Mike... Highlights include Minnie the Moocher, I Will Hold On (during which Jason cracked us all up by doing his impression of the "crazy hippie dance" Fordy had mentioned) and Early Morning Rain, very appropriate considering the rain and all... MC and I hung out a lot with Kent and Susan's kids. They are insane. I can't wait to see the pictures that Jason took with MC's camera. :) (On the other hand.. weekend in Ottawa > this November! *bounce* I'm so going. ANYWAY, it was a great show and its funny how it came together. I was trying to convince my parents to leave me home for the weekend, and after a very painful discussion of how i was too young to be left alone (i was 16 then) they finally gave. Then me and my best friend at the time who was as big a fruhead as i was found out about this show about two days prior, and her mom drove us down there... if my parents wouldnt have let me stay home i would have missed it! we had a blast and we were both *so* hyper... more on that in the Funniest Thing You've seen/heard/experienced at a fruShow question... # Of Shows You Have On Tape: 1! but getting more soon. One notable time was when jian introduced dave... "ladies and gentlemen, on the accordian tonite, dr. niles crane!" this was so hilarious to us because just before the show we were saying to each other how much dave resembled him, and that was the first time we heard that description. Also, me and my friend had this thing for the word "waft" (it was an inside joke from science class), and we keeled over in uncontrollable laughter when dave was talking about the fog "wafting" in... then they kept saying it over and over and we couldnt contain ourselves.
