Unfortunately they were both the same song, "When she talks." I requested Splatter Splatter from Rita the DJ who knows me best. She might have played it but if she did I missed it. Start making those requests to your local station, if they play Moxy they should have a copy all ready. Both Meg Griffin and the aforementioned Rita Houston compared the sound of Thornhill to the Beatles. Since the Pha Inquirer, both Fuv Djs and myself all independantly put it in our reviews I think there might really be something there. Meg also compared them to the Beach Boys. Calling them Beatlesque is not a compliment or an insult, its just a statement of the way they sound to my ears. I was actually more specific and said the Beatles on Rubber Soul, or did I say Revolver, they are from the same period anyway. The Beatles had a more varied sound than almost any group in history, part of the reason they are the Greatest. I prefer Moxy when they aren't Beatlesque myself, the wild and crazy side of Frudom. I like Thornhill but its my least favorite of their albums. Go Live Noise! God I'm rambling. Somebody stop me..... I think the reviewer likes the uptempo/quirky/ more-noveltyish songs and hoped that the CD would have had Pisco Bandito on it. I think that the reviewer "blahed" the CD (only three stars? Grrrr!) because it's in the more mellow Wood mode. Personally, I can't wait to hear it, since I think its a more mature side of Moxy F that will bring out their incredible talent. In my (again not so humbler) opinion, when the boys do a fast Green-Eggs-and-Ham/KoS/Pisco number, a lot of their tight harmonies and playing gets lost... sacrificed to the joke. I *do* think it's a phaze, though not as the reviewer does. I think Moxy will put out funnier CDs in the future. Thornhill is not out-loud funny, and I personally think that's nice (for now) . I considered putting Wood there like many other people will, but I love Thornhill so much so far that I'd be cheating it. Thornhill is my favorite album as in the album I like best right now and will until a better one comes out. As for representing the band's work, they all do that, since all of them are the band's work. But to me, Thornhill is the deepest album and as a package shows what they can do. But it's my favorite because I enjoy the album as a whole the most. Previously, my favorite album was hands down Wood. Wood is a great album and I still listen to it semi-frequently. I can't remember the last time I listened to Bargainville or the "b" album. I do listen to Moon every so often. Like Gordonlew, I have Thornhill right now. My friend Andy found it in Chattanooga TN in a used CD store while he was driving back from Atlanta. I've written a post about my first impressions of the album and the moments that make the album my favorite and I'll be posting it once others have the album and can participate in a discussion of it. All I'll say here is that Thornhill is my favorite album definitely. My least favorite songs on the album I like better than probably 80% of the other Fruvous songs and my favorite songs are mostly on there (My Poor Generation and Independence Day). Thornhill is my favorite Fruvous album so far for many reasons. It's their best work in my opinion and I'm very excited for August 10th when others get their hands on it and we can see what happens.
