If you're in New York City or the vicinity, WFUV, Fordham University's radio station (public radio) has played Fruvous, although infrequently. You can phone in requests, or e-mail. Their website is wfuv.org. They play lots of folk and new music. And if you become a member, you get discounts at lots of stores, like Borders and Tower Records! (it may be that i don't get them where i live) and do they have a website where i can find the e-mail addresses? and the only college stations that i get in my area- seton hall and rutgers- generally play only "punk" rock (in the evening hours, anyway.) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jul 1999 22:32:49 -0400 From: chad schrock Subject: Re: "bla" songs (was Re: Setlist Ponderings) Chad Maloney wrote: > Each of the four guys in Fruvous more than like have their own > songwriting lives outside of the band. But I really really want to add my 11 cents, so here they are: I think Cranky Monarch is one of the most wonderful moments on Live Noise, and a definite conversion plus -- particularly because the conventional KoS is found earlier on the CD, so it is obvious to even a slightly observant listener that this band is a) creative, b) irreverent, and c) not above sending up even their own work. And that to me is the crux of Früvous: excellent performance values and professionalism, but not at the expense of having fun or taking themselves too seriously. - -- Lori, who's also a weirdo because she likes Cranky/Grunge better than the standard. I know the >question is weird, but I keep thinking about it the more I listen to their >CDs. well, from what i'v been able to glean, they collaborate on the songwriting and just let the vocals happen. for the most part, the primary writer of the song will sing it (e.g., jian on "fly," mike on "down from above," murray on "incredible medicine show"). sometimes this isn't the case (e.g., mike wrote "river valley" but dave sings lead). sometimes there's really no lead vocal (e.g., "horseshoes" - one that stumped david dye :). ~~kate - -- Kate Leahy kleahy@loyola.edu katiewow@frumail.org **************************************************** "You're not going to Canada unless that room's clean!" - --My Dad, 6.27.99 **************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jul 1999 23:35:30 -0400 From: truztno1 Subject: Re: fruvous on WPST (97.5)? I think the problem here was, David perhaps played another song by Früvous somewhere in the previous 20 minutes and lumped all the song announcements together. He does that a lot. BUT! not as embarassing as THIS: 9:18am *RING* *RING* *RING* *RI--- (Groggy) "Hello?" "Hi, Zian?" (Loooooong pause)*click* *dial tone* "Mm, guess not." So as to avoid any further confusion and/or embarassment, let's deal with this nasty 'J' together. Think... French. Think Jean Chretien and all the plethora of relatively well-known Jacques: Jacques Cousteau, Jacques Villeneuve, Frère Jacques, that Jacques guy from Jacques and William (the two beers guys in the canoe [1] whom Jian and Murray imitate in the Get in The Car video), etc. Basically, it's the 'J' sound without the 'd' sound in it.
