Funny. Whenever I was describing the song for people who hadn't heard it, I said they re-wrote "Free as a Bird" Fruvous-style. (Just like I describe "Michigan Militia" as a re-write around the main riff of "Last Train to Clarksville," and "Your New Boyfriend" is a re-write of "Sing.") The truly comical thing about MY point of view on this is the part Fruvous 'borrows' from "Free as a Bird" was written by Lennon. I'm not much of a Beatles fan, but I respect McCartney as a songwriter and a musician. Sad Girl has grown on me since the first time I heard it, I think it's much improved with the big keyboard, but the lyrics still sound high-schoolish. IMO, it's one of Jian's weaker efforts, he's written some really good songs such as Misplaced and IWHO. I don't think anybody would *want* to be compared with "She loves you, For those mourning the lack of wackiness, what about Splatter? it's a very silly song. Is there going to be a Scream 3? Is Splatter going to be on the soundtrack or what? It's so darned catchy. Too Careful isn't the most serious song, either, "You want to go skiing in Aspen, but you're ashamed of your equipment/ You're dying for a fairy-tale romance, but you're not that good at committment." That's fun, and it'll stick in your head for days. I don't think Fruvous has assembled a bunch of mainstream songs for Thornhill.
