But Edensoy soymilk is much better. My favorite thing to do with tofu is squish it around in my fingers and play with it. Brings me back to my play doh days. Except when I buy a rice and tofu dish in a Thai restaurant. Then I don't like to squish them around in my fingers. Not in public anyhow. Hmmm. Garlic blackbean sauce. Hmmm. Now I'm extra hungry. BTW, I'm a much better fan of hummus than tofu. On Sat, 3 Jul 1999, truztno1 wrote: > > > Leah wrote: > > > Well, I decided it was time to put in my half a cent about tofu. Take ANYthing the Lads say in an interview with a large grain of salt. This is indeed from the interview in the Present Tense Fanzine ( http://www.Fruvous.com/news/ptf.html#interview ). The lines without attributions are the interviewer's words. Yes, Jian's name was then generally spelled Jean. Please look at the FAQ (again, on Fruvous Dot Com) before asking about that. :) At the beginning of It's Too Cold, it's not in the lyric sheet, somebody says something I can't make out... Do you want to say what that is? Dave: We were commenting on how good the bed track felt. Jean: You're talking about the girl sound? Yeah. The high pitched... Jean: The woman, like the... Yeah... Jean: One by one, I see and I love, all those that you have given me. Mike: It's taken from this obscure lecture tape that we found.. religious... in the studio... Jean: Yeah, pseudo-religious type of thing. Murray: But there's a real message there, so dig deeper... [laughter] Mike: It started off being a song Homeric type of thing, like it was... we had that opening thing then we thought it would be really cool to have a spoken thing here. Well, buddy-boy here starts rooting through a bag of cassettes someone left at a local laundromat, next thing you know we're... Murray: In the microphone booth with an antenna, hooking up a big cable that comes out the back... No, I just went through and found a quote which somehow related to the song, which no one could understand. We sped it up, so it sounds like a young girl, so it would fit in the allotted time we had... Mike: So it fit in the video. Murray: To continue with the theme of the band, and the agenda of the band. [vz: Aaaaand, to alleviate the GE&H questions in the same vein... or maybe to foster *more* questions, here goes the continuation of the interview:) Mike: Have you heard the Green Eggs and Ham recorded version? Oh ya. Mike: You know the high voice in that? Yeah. Mike: Dave's daughter. Are you serious? All: Yeah. Wow, I did not know that. Dave: It's never come up in an interview. [laughter] Wow that's very interesting. Dave: She's five, but she... Jean: She was two at the time. Murray: What a clever thing. Dave: She was one year old, singing like that. Murray: Clever "it". When we transcribed it, we transcribed it as "high female voice." On the page, that's what it says. Dave: Really? Jean: High Female Voice, bracket Dave's daughter, you can put now. Murray: Dave's daughter, and then bracket "come home". Dave: Come home Lucy. I love you Lucy. Dave: Don't stay with that mother of yours, she loathes you. We can make you rich. Frü-friendly stations are good to know; > generally cool stations are also good(classic rock, folk). Thanks :) > Everyone else had pretty much said it: Baltimore's market is pretty much dead (CBS owns half a dozen stations in town, and when most people in Charm City leave a CBS station, they end up on another CBS station.) J-Cor has a lot of air to itself in Baltimore, too. What that ends up meaning is that a lot of the stations sound like carbon copies of each other. (The difference between WLIF, 101.9, and Mix 106.5, both CBS stations, is one of degree, not magnitude.) Some of my favorites that nobody else has mentioned: WBAL (1090 AM)--news/talk, with Alan Prell staking out the left from 9 to noon, and Ron Smith ranting from the right from 3-6. Rush runs from 12-3 on BAL, so steer clear of it then (or, if you're a dittohead, enjoy the clarity of the signal). WCBM (680 AM)--also news/talk, but this station is pretty conservative from Sean and Frank in the morning drive up to Uninhibited Radio with Les Kinsolving from 7-10 at night (last I looked). Doctor Laura runs from 9 to noon, so if you need to hear her smack some poor soul around for ratings, here's where you look in this town. WTMD (89.7 FM)--student station out of Towson University, where I work when my class schedule permits it (and I'm taking summer courses this year, so...) Format is NAC during the week, and block format over the weekend. NAC means a lot of smooth jazz, and the periodic new age track. Might put you to sleep, but then it might give you something new to look up. A lot of my more recent CD acquisitions have been albums I heard while I was on the air at TMD. The top of the hour is usually when they put on the up-tempo stuff. Others: RNR of course, and if you're up in Harford County, 91.1 WHFC. They broadcast out of Harford Community College, and have an A3 format during the afternoon. I first heard Fruvous when I worked here during my studies at "the University of Shucks Corner." And talk about pushing the envelope--they actually run "Kick in the Ass" ON THE AIR, without editing it in any way. Their signal is only 1150 watts, so if you're not in Harford County you won't hear 'em. The Frulads actually visited HFC in fall 97, and did a couple of songs out of "Studio B", which is probably smaller than your living room. They only had four mikes to go around due to the way the console was rigged, but they did a wonderful job with it. But HFC is always looking for tomorrow's hit--I'd hear a song on HFC, then a couple months later Mix 106 would pick it up and call it "New Music." PAH! They don't like the fact that they were scooped by a thousand-watt station up in the middle of nowhere. (Which it is--there wasn't much in that area when I was studying there a couple of years ago, though that might have changed.) Enough of my rants--give TMD a listen (gotta plug 'em, sorry) when you're here.
