I'm not exactly sure *what* the "American Culture" is. We seem to be a hodgepodge of foreign cultures. I mean, what is American Cuisine? A hot dog? McDonalds? Woohoo. What's the official language in America? There isn't one. The official religion. We don't have one of those either. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but I don't think we have a cohesive national identity apart from simply *being* American, and there are many who live in the states who don't consider themselves American, but rather "transplanted ." If anything, our culture seems to be defined more and more by what we see on TV and in the movies. I guess Hollywood is our culture. That's a sad, sad thing. >I totally agree with and understand the Canadian mentality and >defensivness, as it seems that every piece of our culture and aspects >need also to be celebrated in America in order to make them important >and relevant. Unfortunately, the mentality and defensivenss is what makes "celebrated in America" important. I mean, logically, why should any Canadian really give a hoot whether or not Fruvous is accepted in the US, except to note that the lads have more money coming in because of it? And exactly how does our approval make Fruvous more relevant? Again, I think this type of thing is a byproduct of TV/news media culture more than anything. You remember, we're the dummies with guns all over the place down here, don't look to us to show you what's relevant or important. ;-) >Believe me, i would LOVE to wake up tomarrow and never hear the name >Bill Clinton again, I'm American, and I wish the same thing :-) Sorry if I gave anyone offense, but I couldn't help posting an American perspective. And on a related note, at the time of the hockey World Cup, I was dating a Canadian. After the US won the cup from Team Canada, he wouldn't speak to me for two days because I'm American.
