In fact I have said on more than one occasion that the only person who could render an accurate translation of Saucep'n at the right speed would be a Deaf gourmet chef. If anyone actually videotaped this, I need to hear from you. I *was* going to say that I suspected that the translation was nowhere near accurate, but someone on IRC said that Mike said the interpreter had been given the words and had practiced. Simultaneous intepretation of "normal" Früvous songs can get a little odd, and at least twice in Früvous history, ASL interpreters have attempted Saucep'n, only to give up. Kudos to whoever it was that managed the feat, I only wish I could have been there to witness it. Fiona PS Mild nitpick by a hard-of-hearing English major. I tend to discount the crowds for multiple acts -- just because 30,000 people might show up at Phila Folk Fest this August doesn't mean they're all there for Fruvous. At Appel Farm last year attendance estimates were 10,000, but lots of those folks were there to see Livingston Taylor and Iris DeMent and Indigo Girls and all those other folks. To answer jen's original question, when they played Lee's Palace (capacity, anyone? maybe 600?) in Toronto in February, the first two nights the venue was packed, but Sunday night, when lots of out of province (and out of country) Fruheads had left town to get back to work or school, the crowd was far smaller. That to me indicates that there isn't a big enough fanbase in Toronto to pack a 2000-seat venue. Not that that's a bad thing. As many of us here think, small and intimate shows are quite special. But no, that stat doesn't give you cheap arguing points with your brother. Yeah, but it's late (redundancy, anyone?), and I could be wrong, as I often am. That reminds me (the redundancy thing), what IS and escaped fugitive? I heard that on the news. At first I am thinking there was no need for the reiteration of fugitive. But THEN I start thinking, "Well, they *did* capture him, so would an escaped fugitive be a fugitive that escaped from being a fugitive? Hence, making him an ex-fugitive, or a fugitive that was caught". So, which one is right? "Then again, he said we overthought the last one"--the psychiatrist on the Whadd'ya Know quiz enough of my ramblings, or as some people would call them if it were them saying it (oh yeah, that makes sense) "intellectual thoughts."
