There is more of a draw at Falconridge than just any one performer, and as you said, There is never 100% attendance at any one concert. Plus, I was just guesstimating when I said 10 thousand. (I think) I know what success means in Ani DiFranco's > terms and it would appear that she's phenomenally successful in those terms. > Do you think Fruvous has similar terms? I guess in my head, commercial success to me is the ends. The means are what Fruvous is "doing right" in my eyes. Commercial success is, to me, the following: 1) Selling enough albums to be respected by your label 2) Being well known enough to not get "Moopy Fruitloops? What?" 3) Playing the larger sized places 4) Brinding in enough money to continue doing what you want to do Looking at Fruvous: #1 : medium They are probably pretty respected by their US label since their US label is a little independant. As far as Warner Canada, I dunno, but I'd guess the label views them still with potential to do what they did before so the label is ready to cash in if they do. #2 : low I would guess most people still have to sit down and explain for 30 minutes what Moxy Fruvous until someone kinda knows it. #3 : medium They play good size venues in places. Philly, DC definitely. Rochester. In many markets they very close playing 800 person venues and selling out. #4 : Well, I guess They probably make good money as a live band. Enough to get them touring and able to make albums. I'm sure more money wouldn't dissappoint them though *Grin* That's commercial success to me. The means Fruvous has chosen to attempt to attain that success is currently grassroots. They are pretty much preaching to each person at an intimate concert. That one person passes on their feelings to friends and it spreads. This is very different from preaching across the radio or MTV where many thousands of people listen in a steril environment and take or leave what they hear based on that one listen or even how much the radio or MTV shoves it down their throat. From what I've seen, Fruvous adds in something more to what they define as success. It isn't just commercial success, but it is also what someone called artistic success. Garnering a group of people that understand what they do and what they go through and still after listening to it a bazillion times and after being promised about 100 chocolate eclairs by that damnable King still are as excited as ever about what they do. I think that is a part of what Fruvous defines as success and that is something that makes them different. > > to make Britney Spears famous. > > Who?
