I'm interested in what `success in their own terms' means. Critical recognition? A huge fan base where each and every fan is certified to be a Very Lovely Person? (I think) I know what success means in Ani DiFranco's terms and it would appear that she's phenomenally successful in those terms. Apologies to anyone who doesn't get quoted and thinks they should. I'd like to me too with Vika and point out that no-one has suggested any censorship of anything. In fact quite the opposite; as far as I can remember the ammf faq contains some exhortations to keep posts vaguely on topic and you could call *that* censorship if you want. What I suggest is the setting up of a ng with no such rules at all, where absolutely anything goes. Setting up new forums won't reduce posting and discussion, it'll increase it. As for not fixing what isn't broke, unfortunately those who think it *is* broke have voted with their feet and gone or taken long posting holidays. As more of us arrive here things will fracture anyway and little subcommunities will get set up. There has been at least one other Fruvousish ng-like forum set up in the past year and jolly good fun it is too. I spend time having email conversations with ex-ammfers that are absolutely on topic and I'm sure I'm not the only one. It strikes me as a little ironic that I have on topic email conversations about Fruvous's music and then use to ammf to inform AJ that he should shave his legs if he wants to. Yep, fruvous.com serves as the official fount of Fruknowledge, but what I lurk around on other music ngs for is to get a feeling for what people think of latest CDs and gigs, not what the bands' PR companies want me to think. The Yes website (blast, I've admitted to it) doesn't say `There's a new CD out and frankly the fans think its a right pile of old twaddle.', the ng says that, but you have to suffer 1500 interminably dull posts about whether Patrick Moraz is better than Rick Wakeman before you get to that information. But anyway people seem to think its a bad idea and I'm happy with that, I just miss the input from old friends and would like them back.
