Boy did I find THIS discouraging. I wish Früvous all the success they want in the world. The only time I drove was when the car-ful of people I was with where drunk and I (being underage) was sober. We actually got pulled over once... it was about 2am on a Saturday/Sunday, driving back from Nick Tahou's (Rochester's infamous greasy joint, home of the original Garbage Plate). The offer looked at me and my permit, and I asked him, "would you rather have a sober person with a permit driving, or a legally licensed drunk Fraternity Brother driving?" He just warned me to slow down (hee hee, had my lead foot at an early age!) Once I left college and realized I needed my own car, I figured I should get off my a$$ and get the license. (Like I have the power of begrudgement anyway, but I digress... ;-) The BNL comparisson was brought up, and my thing with them is that their concerts have suffered. I mean, I still think they're a great band, and capable of great live performances. But I've seen them about 6 times in the past year, and-- except for a nice, small radio concert that I won passes to-- the only song I've heard them play that is not on either Stunt or Rock Spectacle is the Great Provider. The set lists have been practically identical, right down to the dancing- I know exactly what little hand motions Steve's going to do at most given moments. A lot of this is logistical, I realize. If you're playing a larger place, you need lighting. The lighting has to be designed and programmed, which necessitates a somewhat firm set list. But the spontanaeity has been lost. And since that energy and spontanaeity is much of what I love about a fruvous show, I'd certainly feel let down if their shows became repetative to me. But I think its a *decision*, not an necessary evil, of commercial success. Of course, there's *also* a part of me that worries what happens if they don't acheive "commercial success," no matter how you deifne (a la MTV or a la Ani). WIll these guys really be content to live out the rest of their days passing most of their time in a van playing to even 1,500 people a night? If the crowds stop getting larger, will the motivation to hit the road wane? So as disconserting as the idea of sitting in the third tier of some stadium peering at the lads through binoculars is, the idea of not having that opportunity at all is much worse. So, to repeat, I would not begrudge them that success in any way. In fact, I'm almost fueling it, by singing (figuratively ;-) their praises, making people listen to songs, and encouraging them to see the shows live. I want as many people as possible that I know to get the joy of fruvous that we all do. If 15,000 in a hockey arena can experience this together, than I say they've more than earned it. ~jen (who would stil most likely roll an eyball or two at the teeny bopper set ;-) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Do you know that you are very strong?"-- Grover "Measure your life in love."--Rent ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V3 #409 ********************************************
