Dietrich ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 May 1999 16:22:59 GMT From: Angie Armstrong Subject: OT: Which Fru is the "naughty" Fru? For the record... the following comments have no facts or evidence to support them... just high speculation and perpetuation of previously stated rumors... ;^} ~jen the curious asked: OK, you all will have to forgive my ignorance on this, and if it's inappropriate to ask please feel free to give me a firm slapping on the wrists (but be gentle-- I bruise easily ;-), but can I ask how Dave has gotten the reputatutation as lover of all things vice? Granted I've only seen him over the course of a performance, but he's never seemed any farther gone than the rest of them. ;-) So what's the story here guys? Does he stumble around in stupors after the show? Inhale of substances not approved of by the FDA in open and public venues? For the record, I am asking this not only for my own personal knowledge, but also for those of some similarly clueless converts I have spawned. If that makes it any better ;-) My response: I've heard rumors about all partaking of questionable substances (I've also heard of a particular one who is "cutting down" on certain inhaleables but the Frü in question and my reliable source shall remain anonymous out of respect). We have all at one time or another seen Dave become intimately acquainted with numerous shot glasses miraculously appearing on stage ;^} So... between band accusations and self-proclamations and fan rumors running rampant; _that's_ how Dave developed his reputation as lover of vice. I think I've seen all but Murray drinking at one point or another (tho Katie's comment about the bourbon sour has cleared that up). I think the only one who doesn't indulge in _something_ (save a fierce addiction to PEZ and hugs) is Tobey. I figure... somebody's gotta be coherent to drag them into the FrüBus, right? Now, I _am_ just kidding about excessiveness... I'm sure they behave themselves well enough when in public (hotel parties, however...are another story... I've seen pictures). Anyway, there was a comment somewhre about someone believing Murray to be the innocent one... the pure one... HAH! Take a good look in his eyes during a concert... the wheels are turnin' and I'm sure there's not nary an innocent thought grinding in there! He's dropped a one-liner or two that might've made me blush... were I the sensitive type ;^) Ok, enough speculating the content of the Fruvous souls... There's been a lot of commentary about a great many things recently... some the beginnings of heated discussions and others regarding the quality and quantity of posts here in the ng. Lori did a great job in addressing the sensitivity issue, far be it from me to crowd in on her soapbox (unless it's to give her a hug, of course). As far as the number of posts... the number of off-topic posts as well... I suspect that a lot of it has to do with there not being a lot of actual Fruvous activity until recently. Also, ammf has increased in posters greatly... even since I started in November. Readers find something amusing and all feel they have to comment, and of course other readers have to comment on those responses... and all of a sudden there's 20 posts in the next digest on whether or not women do/don't should/should'nt shave their legs. One thing that subscribing in digest form has done for me (besides keep me from blowing my space quota every other week), is it's helping me to refrain from posting to every single message. I'm beginning to moderate myself and try to jot down what comments I want to make ahead of time. Instead of a moderated newsgroup, maybe some self-disicpline or self-moderation. Please don't get me wrong... I'm not begrudging anyone the right or ability to post what they want or feel... but maybe if there are only 2 or 3 people perpetuating the same OT commentary, perhaps it should be moved to email or something? I also really like Lori's ideas of the OT heading, which some use already, and having a designated greeter every week or so for newcomers. Ok, tummy's rumbling and I think I've exceeded my brain-cell quota for the day. We're more likely to fight over dibs than to whine that it's our turn. :) I think we'd need to compile a list of those interested in holding the "greeter" position, and assign that role weekly among that pool, subject to that person's online availability in a given week. (Maybe we'd need a deputy too, so if a newbie post isn't answered within 24 hours the slack does get picked up. Emergencies happen.) This is one of those things that could be worked out and incorporated into the FAQ, so the newbies know how it works too and can get involved once they've got their feet wet, maybe after a 4-month reading/posting period or something like that. That way there wouldn't be the division of old-school v. new-school posters that might otherwise develop in people's minds. As someone who's been posting less than a year, I don't want to seem to come across as a self-appointed expert on anything, but I do think people need to learn the ropes before they start speaking for the ng as a whole in a welcome-wagon or netiquette way. - -- Lori *********************** i'll hold the pain till it is gone i'll hold my ground when people stop and stare ------------------------------ Date: 11 May 1999 18:13:35 GMT From: bbwminors@aol.com (BBWMinors) Subject: Re: Please cut it out? :) - a suggestion Fiona commented: <> Is that by any chance having to do with my new favorite show, "Homicide: Life on the Streets"?
