These are fun and gives the group some personality, but, of course, off topic. Logistically, I suppose at some point in this transformation process someone would have to step in and say “Ok, kids, I’m moving this discussion that-a- way. Please follow.” Which implies that everyone who had been following that thread read that particular message, though I doubt there are many of us who read every single message in a thread we are following. My other concern is of dividing the group. I like the idea that there is really one place for all of us to get together and converse, which I think is the reason most of us rejected that message board idea someone posted about a couple of months back. I think if people just be sure to put “OT” on any thread that becomes off topic, people who only want to read the relevant posts can avoid the others. I think Vika's suggestion has some merit, but there are also problems with it. First of all, as I understand it, A.F.M.F is an illegal newsgroup in that the name has one too many hierarchy levels (i.e. there is no moxy hierarchy for alt.fan.moxy.fruvous to be part of.) It should be named alt.fan.fruvous or alt.fan.moxyfruvous or alt.fan.moxy-fruvous etc. Because of this, or perhaps for other reason (I'm no net guru) A.F.M.F is not carried by many servers. That is the reason that AMMF was created in the first place. What is more, I know that Jason Reiser was engaged for some time in an attempt to kill off A.M.M.F precisely because the name was illegal and because it caused confusion. I'm not sure to what degree he succeeded. Given the above, I don't know how realistic it is to expect people to actually USE A.F.M.F. Many people may not get it, and there is not mail-news gateway to help them like there is for ammf. This leaves people to the tender mercies of Deja News, and frankly I don't know that I'd wish that on my worst enemy, let alone my friends. So, as far as Vika's suggestion goes, I don't know if it is practical. Somebody in the know: Is A.F.M.F still viable? Could and should we create a NEW newsgroup named, say, alt.fan.fruvous or alt.fruheads or something? Could we also create a mail-news gateway for such a group? And how would we avoid the curse of crossposting that is inevitable when one wants to reach ALL the Frufans? Lots of questions there. Any Answers? A.J. - -- See Maria Louise in all her... erm...
