Jordan ~~ I wanted you to know that, when I read your original post, I knew exactly what you were getting at. I didn't think about it twice, and thought it was cute how you were reassuring Tom. So here's an example of a major problem with email communication -- text on a screen doesn't convey the tone of the "speaker's" voice. Emoticons are helpful. :) Many times on personal emails I've rewritten a particular sentence because I realized (thankfully before hitting Send) that it could be misinterpreted. And I've often ended a sentence with more smiley faces or just-kidding-winks than there was text! My hope is that, if someone is offended by something I've written, they ask for clarification so I can explain what I -really- meant. Obviously, some people knew what was meant in Jordan's original message and some weren't quite so sure. Now everybody can rest assured that it was not a negative sentiment, and that she was giving Kat a compliment. ~valerie~ :) :) :) :) :) :) :) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 May 1999 15:27:51 GMT From: "A.J. Must have been because of the later show. I know the band made a little fun of the venue being so small and not having any back stage space but I hope they'll come back there. I enjoy seeing shows in a room the size of my living room! (For those who weren't there Maxwell's concert space is about 20'x40' standing room-- not that my living room is so big but it felt like it!) If they're interested in playing NJ again maybe they should consider the NJ Performing Arts Center, the Community Theater in Morristown, or the State Theater in New Brunswick. But i am >relatively new to the group, so maybe its not my place >to say. Jen - of course it's your place to say, if you're one of the people who post on the newsgroup. And I agree with you, even. However. I agree that one of the best things about the Fruhead community (whatever that may mean nowadays) is that we seem to have other interests in common. When we go frutripping and get stuck in a car with each other over long distances, we usually don't seem to have trouble finding things to talk about. On this newsgroup, even, there have been off-topic threads that I personally have been very interested in (like the children's books thread from last summer, for example, or when people discuss other bands that Fruvous fans might like). But to everything there is a limit. You may or may not know that ammf is not the only newsgroup in existence dedicated to Moxy Fruvous. There also exists alt.fan.moxy.fruvous - a newsgroup that almost hasn't been used at all lately. The two ngs' names are pretty self-explanatory - alt.music newsgroups tend to be oriented toward the musician(s) they are dedicated to and other music-related postings, and alt.fan newsgroups tend to be oriented toward... well, the fans. I myself have been very frustrated in the past by the amount of traffic on ammf. Most of this traffic is off-topic (even now that Fruvous is touring, sort of, I safely deleted 60 out of the 137 post headers I downloaded today without even reading the bodies). I, of course, am only one of the manymany posters on this ng, and would never presume to dictate what people post where, but to tell you the truth, I'm saddened by the fact that, within the span of less than a year, the posters I knew before have gotten disenchanted with this place and not only do they not post any longer, they don't even read it. I've posted before about the existence of a.f.m.f to no reaction from the rest of the regular and not-so-regular posters. How would people feel about trying consciously to split the traffic between the two newsgroups? A strong objection to this might be "It would be inconvenient for me to read both of the newsgroups." That may be true, if many messages get crossposted. If they don't, hitting "get posts" twice may be a small price to pay for making the alt.music.moxy-fruvous ng more manageable and on-topic, and at the same time providing the fans with the opportunity to converse on less relevant to Moxy Fruvous topics elsewhere. I don't know. This newsgroup is still a very friendly place, always has been. But it did drive people away, with the irrelevance and often inappropriateness of the posts on here. That's sad. So what do you all think? Would it be doable to split the posts in-between the two newsgroups? We might actually get Zard back.
