Taste of the Danforth. Or, as one of the preschool kids my aunt works with called it, "The Geek Festival" :) The show that ended in a monsoon and Jian giving my aunt and I really weird looks. We happened to be walking by him right as we were joking "Hmmm... I'm hungry... what do you feel like... I dunno, greek?... Yeah, but do you think there are any Greek restaurants around here?... I think I might have seen one... we'll probably have to look hard..." So my family has an odd sense of humour. I never quite realized how much until I saw the look on his face when I said "Yeah, but do you think there are any Greek restaurants around here?" :) :) Veronica - -- *************************************************************************** "Never look at the trombones, | Veronica Gruneberg it only encourages them." | Dept. of Biology - Richard Strauss | Queen's University | Kingston, Ontario ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Apr 1999 13:20:05 -0400 From: "KatieWow" Subject: Re: Underage Drinking and such many bars and clubs don't allow such things as it's nearly impossible for two bartenders and a bouncer to police a crowded room. the one bar in baltimore that bracelets 21+ is in serious legal trouble. everyone knows that they can go there and have 21+ people buy them drinks and the entire staff will look the other way. the club/bar is safeguarding itself, and that's completely understandable. if they can fill a club for a show without admitting minors, they'll do it. not only will they not have to worry about legal drinkers buying underage patrons alcohol, they can rest rather comfortably in the knowledge that the ratio of expensive alcoholic drinks sold to inexpensive non-alcoholic drinks sold will be rather high. ~~kate - -- kate leahy kleahy@loyola.edu katiewow@frumail.org ***************************************************************** evil is just special with a criminal record. - --doug, 3.26.99 everybody loves a happy ending but we don't even try we go straight on past pretending to the part where everyone loves to cry - --elvis costello **************************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Apr 1999 12:56:24 -0400 From: Rachael Rosenthal Subject: Re: OT: college! > Well I'll say that I was completely sure that I was tranfering to the > University of Nevada Las Vegas untill I realized there was no > fruvous....now what'll I dooooo......????. Ho-lee-cow!! :) Great game! :) :) Veronica (Toronto fan... could you tell?) - -- *************************************************************************** "Never look at the trombones, | Veronica Gruneberg it only encourages them." | Dept. of Biology - Richard Strauss | Queen's University | Kingston, Ontario ------------------------------ Date: 23 Apr 1999 16:53:56 GMT From: Gruneberg Veronica J <6vjg@qlink.queensu.ca> Subject: Re: Underage Drinking and such We had the same sort of big debate here over the past few years because of underage people getting into campus pubs (there are three... no, four. The Grad Club counts) Anyway, the argument is that if yopu simply stamped people's hands, or marked them with a big "X" or gave them a bracelet then let them in, all would be right with the world. At least, with regard to this problem. The other side of the argument is that bracelets can be removed, stamps can be washed off, rum-laden Coke looks the same as regular Coke, and liquor licenses aren't that easy to come by. (The LLBO is pretty strict about underage drinking). Yes, it sucks, and yes, we can all see better ways of handling it. But what it comes down to is that the bars could have a *huge* liability on their hands if they got caught. I've been carded at bars by door people who are friends of mine and know my age full well, but they still have to check. Not that it makes it any easier when you're on the other side of the fence. I can't even begin to tell you the amount of stuff I missed during my first term here because I was only 18, and *all* my friends were going to bars. One night in particular I had to sit at home in residence while all my friends were at a pub, then listen to them talk about it the next day. Not to mention watching all the people on my floor get ready to go to a Fru-show that I couldn't get into. But you know what... we've all been there. And eventually we all get old enough, and the fun will still be there. I learned that one after 4 months of university spent sitting at home many a weekend. But in the meantime, feel free to whine about it - goodness knows I did! :) Veronica - -- *************************************************************************** "Never look at the trombones, | Veronica Gruneberg it only encourages them." | Dept. of Biology - Richard Strauss | Queen's University | Kingston, Ontario ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V3 #354 ********************************************
