As one of those who gets there early to be in front, it has nothing to do with being "seen by the band" (I can't help but feel like there's this finger pointing saying "groupie groupie groupie"). Especially the commentary on inclusivity -- we come in many breeds and stripes, silly and serious, shy and gregarious, able to Frutrip regularly and not, posters and lurkers and non-internet-accessible -- and that makes none of us less a fan. What makes us fans is the profound connection we feel with some of the most heartfelt, funny, sad, and multileveled music being made today. (Which brings up a somewhat tangential point -- we call ourselves Fruheads, because it's meaning is easy for both us and the world at large to get a grasp on (well, once they've met us and/or heard the band), but how many of us actually prefer that term to something more neutral like Frufans? I know I'm not thrilled with the "head" connotation -- pothead, crackhead, head case ... maybe I'm in the minority here, but it's another something to think about on this Monday morning. :) ) - -- Lori ******************************* Visit Lori's *newly-redecorated* strange and wonderful world! http://members.aol.com/srm9988n/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Apr 1999 13:51:55 GMT From: nafio@my-dejanews.com Subject: FruCon II Videos was Re: Jian gets a makeover Ahem. I always thought it was a personal thing. whatever you feel you are and how and why is totally up to the individual. who is to really say that one can not officially become a fruhead unless they have 15 stamps on their frumiles card and had all their CDs signed by the guys and the guys know them by name. i always thought that the coolest thing about most fruheads was the fact that it doesn't matter about any of that stuff...that all that really matters is that you appreciate the music and the you have a good time at the shows in any way that you feel comfortable with (i for one am one of the people who have made fools of themselves in front of the guys...but i know many people who don't even feel comfortable meeting them after the show...and that's totally cool too). those of you who were are frucon this year can recall that even jian said that that was that the fruheads as a whole are very welcoming to every and anybody who says "hi! I really dig this kind of music" For me, i consider my self a fruhead because i do consider fruvous to be one of my favorite bands and i have a great time traveling to see them and meeting a bunch of really cool people in the process. my lil brother, on the other hand calls himself a fru-fan because he likes the music and shows that he's been to, but doesn't see them as being something go all out to see every chance he gets..does this make his any less of a fan then me? The bottom line here, imo, is that it's totally up to each person whether they consider themselves a fruhead or not. I think, even if you have never been to a concert before but still really dig the music and are ready to support the band, then that's enough to call youself a fruhead. and on that note...it's time for class *ug* Amy "If i can speak for the serpant, the serpant can speak for the bird" ~Fordy and bus "It's not easy to run when you carry a load Let the questions be done and Follow the Road" _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web.
