That's 'cause you're perfect... Yeah yeah, I should have gone to yours. But it wasn't Thor's party; it was a big gathering with lots of people, where I hoped there would be at least a few interesting ones to mingle with. Instead there was Thor and his ever-open zipper. And that guy who broke my heart and his psychotic new girlfriend. And the leering Jay (though it was nice of him to encourage Sheri and Sara to rub my feet, even if it was only so he could watch). Everybody whose prom sucked, raise your hand. Okay, gentle reader, we'll lower ours to continue typing and you can put yours down. You, too, Madonna, Nicolas Cage, Lisa Kudrow and Matthew Perry. "I sat home alone on prom night. I couldn't get a date," the Material Girl tells Jump magazine, which presents prom nights of the rich and famous in its May issue. She's not alone in her formal-wear funk, although some of the celebs inflicted the misery on their dates rather than suffering it themselves. "I got my dress on the day of the prom, and it was so awful that I called up my date and canceled," recalls Friends cutie Lisa Kudrow, whose disdain for her outfit was nothing compared to that of Nicolas Cage. "I threw up all over my tux in front of my high school prom date," the 8 MM star says. "It was certainly a memorable night." "My date dumped me for somebody else. At the prom!" remembers Kudrow's colleague Matthew Perry. "I'm not sure if she was actually making out with my friend, but I sensed that it was about to happen, so I gave them some privacy. Seventeen years old and a big-time broken heart." Did anyone enjoy this thing? Well, Halle Berry is willing to buck the high-school-reject star trend and admit she was prom queen — and loved it. "It was exciting, because until then, I had never won anything in my life," she says. "But it was also really interesting because I went to an all-white school and they had never had a black queen." Neve Campbell probably sums it up best, though, with her observation — even though her ballet school didn't have a prom and she didn't go to anyone else's. "I don't regret it," she says of missing the experience. "Most people I talk to about their high school proms had a miserable time." — Michael Peck - -- linnellgirl@tmbg.org ~ icq:26873712 http://members.aol.com/limezinger "save the bloody shirt, we can sell it on ebay" - david letterman ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 07 Apr 1999 12:01:00 GMT From: marykrause@my-dejanews.com Subject: Re: MF and XPN In article <19990406.184617.-209435.1.petit_chou@juno.com>, petit_chou@juno.com wrote: > > kate said: > >available april 10th at a border's near you (if you live in the philly > area, > >that is) or for a $60 pledge to WXPN. > >also, if you don't have world cafe volume 4, get it as soon as possible > >'cause it's gonna be gone soon. > > Well, that's all shiny and happy, but what about us guys who live way the > hell out in Washington (the STATE!)? If one were to make a one-of-a-kind item (for instance, like Clare's shirt) using fans' photos downloaded from FDC, what are the copyright issues on that? I understand that the rights to the photos probably still belong to their respective photographers (the fans themselves). Does having them available on FDC imply permission for anyone's personal (non-commercial!) use? Would the maker of such an item (the purely hypothetical shirt or whatever) have to include some kind of disclaimer statement on the item itself? This is what I have done. (Please note that Chris is not a copyright lawyer and neither am I -- this is his good-faith attempt at crediting the work, and mine as well.) As for other pieces of Fruvous artwork on my pages, such as logos, Mike's drawings etc, there is a notice on my pages saying copyright Moxy Fruvous/Warner Music Canada/BL Records etc. As for my own photos and text not on FDC, I put a similar copyright notice on my pages. As non-business webpages are essentially efforts in self-publishing, they must be self-regulating as well -- we don't have editors at big publishing houses who are aware of what can or cannot be done. I would think the same would be true of any personal not-for-profit use of logos, artwork etc on tshirts or other items. Internet artwork is a huge artistic-property issue, and I know some artists are quite irate about their designs being stolen, altered, etc. If you go to web design graphics pages, while many of the images are free for the taking there are often quite explicit conditions involved in their approved use, including crediting the creator, linking to their site, not altering or resizing the image etc. I don't think any of this is unreasonable. I am amazed and gratified at what fine work people have created apparently just for the enjoyment of it, then put out there free for anyone's use, and I would no more dream of not crediting someone for their graphics than I would of claiming their writings were mine because I quoted them. Hope this clears up a few issues, or at least doesn't muddy them further. - -- Lori ******************************* Visit Lori's *newly-redecorated* strange and wonderful world! http://members.aol.com/srm9988n/index.html ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V3 #319 ********************************************
