When I travelled to Florida in high school I had to carry a calculator with me that did the conversion! :) As for boiling, it is 100 C (see how much sense this system makes? Each degree Celcius is equal to one joule, which is the amount of energy it takes to raise the temperature of water by one degree. Bit of a round about explanation, but that's the gist and it's been a long time since first year chemistry) And the two do meet up at -40, which gives you an idea of how cold it was when I was complaining about temperatures hovering around -50 in January. :) Veronica - -- *************************************************************************** "Never look at the trombones, | Veronica Gruneberg it only encourages them." | Dept. of Biology - Richard Strauss | Queen's University | Kingston, Ontario ------------------------------ Date: 2 Apr 1999 04:50:44 GMT From: Gruneberg Veronica J <6vjg@qlink.queensu.ca> Subject: Re: Bass Folk I will absolutely do that, Donna. Oh the horror!) but DP Godmother Mary neglected to write up a faction description for War 9, so I have no self-explanatory links to give you. So here we go. Forever Knight. It's this show about an 800-year old vampire who lives in Toronto, working as a homicide detective and seeking to regain his mortality. For the final season of the show, said vampire was given a new partner, Det. Tracy Vetter. Tracy replaced a well-loved character, and at first a lot of people thought she didn't fill the rather large shoes she was left. She was called "perky" - both a reference to the times when she was quite cheerful and to her addiction to coffee. FK has (still running in reruns and in Virtual Episodes on the web) a cult following and we're all slightly nuts. Each character has at *least* one faction devoted to him or her and Tracy is no exception. During our seemingly annual Wars (http://members.aol.com/Lizbetann/warinfo.txt) two main factions have popped up. One is the Perkulators, who enjoy Tracy's lighter side, find her refreshing. They started playing in War 5 and disappeared sometime around War 8. The Dark Perks are a "militant group of thugs dedicated to exploring Tracy Vetter's dark side". They started playing in War 8 and are now a well-established faction, with a great HQ (the aforementioned 1313 Mockingbird Rd) If they wish to take credit for an attack on another faction they leave the head of a dark neon pink (aka Evil Pink) stuffed bunny as their calling card. So there you have it. What faction do I belong to? Well I like the Dark Perks, I really do, but I'm a Vaquera. And that's another story entirely. Fiona War 9 vet - Vaquera Research Girl No-one dies. I need to tell you the whole story really. here it is (typed at 4 in the morn): I and my beloved friend Teresa (trese) were at the DC concert this Feb. we were walking around during Jess Klein's (lovley singer!!!) set and trese inquired as to the names of the guys. I said dave murray mike and jian, adding little discriptons to each name such as dave has a shaved head, etc. she got stuck, unsuprisingly, on jian, and was pretty confused. I clairfied that he was middle eastern and she still didn't get it. she was like is it french? i tried to tell her that jian indeed was*not*French, but it didn't help. in a further attempt to help her, i made the horrible mistake of spelling it out for her, wherein she easily mangled his name into something like "john" with the soft J that jian has. I was sort of giving up at this point at decided that whatever she felt like was fine, i'd fix it later. after the show, we (trese, her older sister Robin, and my aunt Amy and me, clare) went up to *meet* Jian. at this point he ectually introduced himself to her, and i thought that would fix it fine. No can do. after the show she was attempting to remember their names and she said, 'uhmm..dave with the shaved head..and Murray..and..uh..Mike, and..uh..uh..er..that guy-whathisname??--Dijon or whatever!" I was giggling at first but slowly it became obvious that she was no longer able to refer to him as anything but Dijon, which, though quite nice, is not his name. I've been beating her about it for a while and it has sifted back into joke form..now she just kids around with it..she was trying to guess who was singing "The Kids Song (Gabby)" and she was going, "hmm...uh..Jian? er *Dijon*?" and it, instead of being crazy, was just funny. But, she's still and always will be MustardGirl. so long as she never reads this post. I'm now quite horrified that i've given my best friend a perfectly good reson to kill me, especially if Jian reads this (i found out he reads the ng *after* i posted other stuff on MustardGirl..heh heh oops..)..then i will be royally dead..but I hope he doesn't mind (heck if he doesn't mind you weirdoes writing long thread about the way he*smells*[crazy]he won't mind this)...
