Granted, I *know* there are other people who play bass much better then me, and maybe their advice would be better...but... I learned how to play bass (guitar and drums, for that matter) but just picking it up and fooling around. I think some people learn better that way then by taking lessons. You can probably pick up one of those "Learn to Play Bass Guitar" books at any music or book store for like, $10. They usually have a diagram of the strings and frets to show where single notes are, and how to figure other ones out. You can learn to play transcribed music that way. But really, its all about practice and repetition. Once you fool around enough, you can figure out what sounds cool and what doesn't. I think the bass is a really cool instrument in that to play something simple is *very* simple. Whereas something simple on guitar isn't all that simple. So yeah, my basic adivice is sit down and just have fun with the thing. Bass is probably the best instrument to do that with, in my opinion. The rest of you bass experts can all tell me I'm wrong now :) - -anna- http://elements.dreamhost.com - -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Mar 1999 21:14:57 GMT From: Angie Armstrong Subject: La La La... hKath asked: Oh, on a slightly related note (it won't seem like it, but it is), does someone want to play 'inform the canadian'? A Workshop is a festival thing. It's usually 2 or 3 groups sharing a small stage and each taking turns playing a song. Sometimes they have styles associated with them (like the Tall Tales Workshop where songs like Marion Fruvous are very appropriate) or other times they are grouped by style of music (like the Acapella workshop) or geography (like the Canadians workhop). It isn't really a workshop per se. - Chad ------------------------------ Date: 1 Apr 1999 01:21:44 GMT From: dalevy@aol.com (DALevy) Subject: Re: More Fleadh info >The Fleadh will kick off June 5 in San Francisco >(Golden Gate Park polo field) Hey gang... this is walking distance to my home!!!
