Delurking for a moment . . . I've looked all around the Moxy Fruvous website, and I've been unable to find any information on this, so I'm hoping that someone here will be able to answer my question: A few days ago in a record store, I happened to see a copy of Moxy Fruvous' "You Will Go To The Moon" album with a Moxy Fruvous "A New Frontier" CD booklet. The artwork for it was along the same theme as the "YWGTTM" artwork with the four boxes et al except that the boxes were different colors (blue, purple, yellow-ish green, etc.) and the picture of an astronaut on a rocket ship had been replaced by one of an astronaut drawn in the same style but walking on the moon instead with a rocket ship in the background. The back CD tray sleeve design was almost identical to the design of the regular "YWGTTM" tray sleeve except that the layout differed in that there had been no space left for a bar code, like on "YWGTTM" and so Bottom Line had placed a bar code sticker on the sleeve before inserting it into the tray and then sealing up the CD. So I was wondering if anyone knows what the deal with this is, and how it came to be as such. Is this something that's fairly hard-to-find? I've seen YWGTTMs like that, too, with the front sleeve in backwards. Here's a weird little nugget, though: I bought Juliette a YWGTTM not just because of the misplaced sleeve, but because the picture of the lads on the back was slightly different. I can post now! > Are there any bass people out there? can they tell me what to do to learn how > to play bass (besides "take lessons!") Are there any bass people out there? You don't need a bass. I mean just look at the Push Stars. Oh wait, sorry. *grin* I play bass, yes. How to learn how to play bass? Hmmm. Well, the first thing would be "get a bass". If you are serious enough to take that step then read on. Once you got a bass, I'd decide where I want to go with it. Lessons are definitely a good thing since a good teacher will stop you from creating bad habits for yourself. A good teacher will also come up with a good regimen for you to follow so that you get more comfortable. I wouldn't get an amp in the beginning and I'd probably buy a cheapo Fender P-bass ripoff from some shop somewhere. This'll get you started. My first bass was a Yamaha RBX200F. It was nice and cheap and I actually still use it a lot of times because I got attached to it. The hardest part will probably be the first couple months when you have to get your fingers on both hands coordinated enough to do what you want. It takes a long time to get to where you can think something and then play it (or completely forgo the thinking part and it still sounds good). In a couple months you should be able to get your fingers to a point where you aren't plucking the wrong string (or 2 strings at once) and your pinkies are relatively useful. But anyways, I'd get a cheap bass and a metronome and just hack around on it. Work on getting notes without buzz and getting fingers worked up. A teacher helps all this a lot just because it forces you to be accountable for things. If you got good ethic, I guess a teacher isn't completely necessary. A good fundamental sense of rhythm is important for the bass too. I'd highly recommend some good expanded horizons musically and get listening to some things that you may not be so interested in now just to get the feel. Stuff like Motown and Funk may not be your cup of tea, but they got a lot of feel to them and helps you start to get to know the structure of a group and where the bass fits in. Of course all this is very inspecific. If you are already good musically, some of this may not be as necessary. You may just inately know where the bass fits in and already have a good theoretical music base. I dunno. But I hope maybe this helps a bit. - Chad ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V3 #298 ********************************************
