Steve's response was in jest - but nobody was laughing at you. If we thought you were going to read the message, we would very likely have sent you a helpful (and detailed) reply, telling you how to unsubscribe from a mailing list or newsgroup. The atmosphere in a.m.m-f is not a hostile one. We all generally get along, and we don't flame each other. I'm sorry you feel the way you do, but Steve's message really wasn't all that bad. ----------[ Brent McNamee - Woodstock, Ontario, CANADA ]----------- bmcnamee@NOSPAM.yahoo.com | The answer to the Great (remove the NOSPAM. to mail me) | Question of Life, the Universe http://www.interlog.com/~brentm/ | and Everything: 42 ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Mar 1999 03:37:37 GMT From: Srm9988n@aol.com Subject: Re: Yemen the always helpful Brent noted: > >I've always wondered what the "OBX" stood for as well... > Here's a web site for you. "Grumps" is a show that Jian was on on Canadian TV a couple of months ago. It's basically just a Canadian version of "Politically Incorrect" (with a *much* smaller budget!!!) Jian was very good in it, and I think it's a great idea! To be honest, though - they tend to go with big names. It doesn't matter how intelligent someone might be, it only seems to matter how much "in the spotlight" they are. ----------[ Brent McNamee - Woodstock, Ontario, CANADA ]----------- bmcnamee@NOSPAM.yahoo.com | The answer to the Great (remove the NOSPAM. to mail me) | Question of Life, the Universe http://www.interlog.com/~brentm/ | and Everything: 42 ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Mar 1999 03:16:07 GMT From: Irene Gaspar Subject: radio-friendliness Vika Zafrin wrote: > Pisco is definitely not mainstream-sounding to me. I think "radio-friendly" is an excellent way to describe some of the new fru-songs. Songs like IWHO and Sad Girl I think could be particularly successful with those who do not normally listen to this band. When She Talks might be a bit too retro-sounding. Independence Day will never make it on the radio, however much I may love it; it's too slow and just that little bit on the abstract side. "Radio-friendly" is not all good, not all bad. With Wood, and YWGTTM I found it took time for me to get into the sound of the album (I had no concerts to warn me). Normally I listen to pretty conventional music. Fruvous happens to appeal to my odd sense of humour and my delight in the absurd. I suspect this coming album will not take much getting used to; it may not have the same edge that the other two have. (Bargainville, I thought, had edge, but the sound toned it down a fair bit.) To me this is a bit of a loss, because Fruvous for me has always meant a step out of the ordinary. But "radio-friendliness" is a fine thing, at the same time. Hell, I *listen* to the radio. It would be nice to hear some Frusongs casually inserted into my day as if they actually belonged there. (I don't know of a radio station that plays these guys as a matter of course.) It would be nice for me to be able to casually talk to friends or co-workers about the band and have this line of conversation greeted with a touch of interest ("hey, I heard their new song on the radio" kinda thing). Those who know me will know that the latter scenario will never happen--I'm cursed ;) Enough's enough. Time to get ready for work. (Why can't tomorrow be Saturday?)
