Boring and mainstream? Wow. I've never been so excited for the direction Fruvous is going than I am right now. Each time I hear a new song, it builds on the lyrical and vocal greatness that Fruvous has always had, but adds a maturity musically that started with Wood and has been growing since then. I think we'll get surprises, but I don't think they'll be so much completely new songs. They'll probably rework things to make them sound more full in the studio. We have to wait until July?!?! And a big genuine thank you to everyone whose taken pity on us and spent time and effort to hunt down various Internet resourses from which we can order Fruvous stuff. Once again my news server has been behaving in a manner that passeth all human understanding so I've missed out on conversations lately so I apologise if I repeat already made points. But... First, my argument was not that Fruvous things cannot be had in Europe, obviously they can, my point is that it is so difficult to get them that only those of us already Fruvousised are going to go to the effort of getting them. The only UK people who are going to get Fruvous CDs are those that already love Fruvous. And the only way that you can get to love Fruvous here is to get the CDs. Accuse me of being a logician if you will, but I know a circular argument when I hear one. Chad suggests that Fruvous may only want to do Europe `properly' ie release CDs here and then tour. For various reasons there is no possibility of a tour here, so no CDs. Fine argument, but I've been constantly amazed by the turn out to gigs here by Dar Williams, Ani DiFranco (I had to queue and hour and half to see Ani!) Great Big Sea and similar. They all hardly ever tour here and I suspect they hardly get any radio airplay so their popularity here is generated purely by CD sales and word of mouth. Lastly I don't want to come across as a disgruntled whinger. Getting Fruvous CDs here brings out the collector mentality in me and I find the challenge of getting them fun. If Fruvous have made a definite decision to not deal with Europe at all then that's their decision and I respect that. I just find it rather sad that Jon had to go to enormous and mostly fruitless lengths to get hold of any Fruvous CDs and that many others (who, unlike me, don't have net access and live half an hour away from the biggest CD store in Europe) will be having exactly the same problems. It's got reams and reams of information that you'll never look at, but if you look at http://www.fruvous.com/discog.html it has the Moxy Fruvous discography. Included in there is a list of the videos Fruvous has made. (taken from FDC) Frü-tunes for which videos have been made (in order of release) King of Spain Stuck in the 90's My Baby Loves a Bunch of Authors Fell in Love Down From Above Fly Get in the Car As for the "are they gonna make more", I don't know. I would say it probably depends on what BLRC sees as the marketability of a video versus how much money it would cost combined with how much the band thinks they want to make videos. - Chad ------------------------------ Date: 9 Mar 1999 19:00:25 GMT From: Gruneberg Veronica J <6vjg@qlink.queensu.ca> Subject: Re: Music Videos???? Unfortunately, the videos are not currently available to the public. The only time they were was during the initial "Fruhead Card" promotion when you got them free after attending 12 shows. So your best bet now is to befriend a longtime Fruhead and get them to make you copies :) jordan Steve Nordmeyer (snordmey@dayton.net) wrote: : I saw that about seven of Moxy's tunes have been released as videos. Really?!?!? Chad, you surprise me. I really like some of the new songs and I don't particularly care for others. There does seem to be a direction (sort of) that the new material is taking, but I would not call that direction "musical maturity." From where I sit, wood was the most musically mature thing they've done. YWGTTM was a step into another direction. Kind of wry eclectic pop. Great stuff, but musically mature? Gimme a break! Musical fun more like. For me the new material seems to be continuing somewhat in the same direction as YWGTTM in that it is less folky and more popular/alternative than the older stuff but there is more seriousness to it. What does that mean in a nutshell? Well not boring, but mainstream? Yeah a bit more so. Obviously there there are songs that don't fit the "mold" (just as No No Raja didn't really match the sound of much of the rest of "moon.") Songs like Pisco and If Only You Knew and Earthquakes (if only they do it the right way!)[1] But songs like IWHO, Independance Day, My Poor Generation, You Can't Be Too Careful, Half As Much, Grudge, and When She Talks do all seem to me to be in a similar more mainstream vein than anything Fruvous has done previously. Ok, I'm going out on a limb here: Personally, I really like the first 4 of those songs. They seem quite worthy of the Fruvous marque. However I really have not been impressed with the latter 3. Maybe they just haven't been developed to their full potential yet, but I find each of them to be pretty bland, genaric and forgettable by comparison to other frutunes. I mean as songs go, they are fine if you are just talking in general, but I do not feel that those 3 currently live up to the lofty standards that Fruvous has set for themselves. Perhaps it is unfair to expect them to continuously meet such high expectations, unfortunately, once you are shown to be as good as they have been shown to be, the public holds you to that standard forever. [1] For those of you who heard Earthquakes at Lee's, I don't feel that you have truely heard the song. The way they did it there was WAY experimental compared to the version they did in Windsor and in Ann Arbor. Too me, the Lee's version sounded like the'd taken a countryesque song (which is how it sounded in Windsor) and tried to do it in a motown style or something. But the song just didn't work for that. All through that song at Lee's I felt like the country in it was trying to come out but just couldn't. It was almost painful for me to listen to. But the original version... Ah that was fabulous. That was the song everyone was talking about after the Windsor show. Hopefully that is how it will go down on the album A.J. - -- "I still have to disinfect the doorknobs" --Lisa _____ _ / ____(_) | | _ ___ ___ _ __ ___ | | | |/ __/ _ \ '__/ _ \ | |____| | (_| __/ | | (_) | \_____|_|\___\___|_| \___/ @wwnet.com ICQ#: 13117113 ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 09 Mar 1999 14:31:18 -0500 From: Chad Maloney Subject: Re: How do I get Moxy Videos? The "Fruvous Video Collection" was available as the prize for 12 stamps on the old Fruhead Card that expired at the end of '97 and was replaced by the Frumiles Card. People who got 12 stamps on the old card got the videos. People who got 12 stamps too quickly didn't get the Get in the Car video since it came out after they got their videos. I would guess that if there is interest in people wanting to purchase a collection of all the Fruvous videos, bother Jude about it (contact info for Jude is on, yeP! you guessed it, FDC at http://www.fruvous.com/contact.html. She's on the other end of the email and phone number listed under Tour Info). I'm sure if enough people ask about purchasing the video collection (well, it's one video tape, but a couple videos) then someone at MF HQ will at least check out the feasability of a batch of the video being made. That is of course assuming that all the guys think you should be able to buy a video with them in high heels... - Chad > (ps - Hi ^kat^ - saw you at the Canal Street show - good luck with your > performance) Re: PS Matt DeMarco is dead but we still want his whorehouse ------------------------------ Date: 9 Mar 1999 21:01:26 GMT From: Gruneberg Veronica J <6vjg@qlink.queensu.ca> Subject: Re: Strengthen your marriage or relationship Fruchild, this is what happend when you laugh!! ;) (note the tongue in cheek for that last statement) You people make me giggle.
