Lee. I think the lyrics and imagery are really fascinating. It's such a haunting melody...and I can't get this image of a deep red night hanging over an apartment building set a deep purple hue due to the clouded over moon...and a room with honey-colored light playing on rumpled bedsheets...and candles flickering across two pallid faces. Then both rising and almost floating to the balcony and sailing over...sailing down..... It just strikes me as a beautifully haunting and intriguing song. I actually don't think I'd like to know what triggered the writing of the song...I'd just like to know what prompted the use of the imagery...like "fall like paper planes". Maybe. Or maybe I don't really want to know exactly...I'd actually just like to talk about the general subject of haunting imagery. Which might be odd, I know, but I hate setting down the specific reasons for writing something...it sort of solidifies the song into a specific context way too much for me. > 2) what is your favorite song/lyric or all time and why? > Well, I don't really have a favorite because I anticipate something better to always come along but...here's some that mean a lot to me: "So leave me if you need to I will still remember Angel flying too close to the ground" --Willie Nelson, "Angel Flying too Close to the Ground" "What could we say? We're only 25 years old We'd like to play hockey Have kids and grow old" --MF, "Gulf War Song" (as if you didn't know!) A lyric by a songwriter that I used to like a lot but who I feel has grown far too commercialistic, flashy, and out-of-touch (I like his older stuff, in other words)...but the song serves as a great reminder for me to get off of my ass and DO something with my life: "Too many times we stand aside and let the waters slip away For what we put off 'till tomorrow Has now become today So don't you sit along the shoreline And say you're satisfied Choose to chance the rapids And dare to dance the skies" --Garth Brooks, "The River" ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 07 Mar 1999 22:20:39 GMT From: Lynne Subject: From the Log (fwd) work at the camp.. you'll get days off!!! :) - -Lynne ===================== From: petit_chou@juno.com AUGH! While I'm not saying anyone who wants to should be denied entry to any show I will say that the fans who only know one song (in the case of BNL, One Week or in Früvous' case, KoS) and come to the show with no respect for any of the rest of the 90mins-2hrs of music, talking throughout, standing like trees, yelling for that one song, getting animated and singing along like crazy when the song is finally played disgust me. That's total lack of respect for the band, and for the fans around them. It's no wonder that people pull superiority trips on fans like that... Especially when those type, as they are wont, declare themselves "their BIGGEST fan" . I have no problem with those who know only one or two songs and come to the show to learn more about the band, listen to the music and maybe even buy an album... we all have to start somewhere. That's what chart hits are supposed to do, hook your interest so that you discover a wealth of new music. Just because a band makes it big with one song, or one album, doesn't mean that the music that came before or after it isn't deserving of respect. (Yeah yeah, preaching to the converted on *that* one I know) So I guess what I'm saying is I can see both sides. I have been annoyed by the type of fans Sarah mentions, but I would also not deny anyone entrance to a show, because it's AT a show that a one-song fan who hasn't bought the album yet, hears what they should.
