I don't know all that much more than just the instruments, but I'll try... I don't know anything about Murray's setup, or Jian's, for that matter, but I know a little about Dave and Mike... I not sure exactly what Dave's banjo is, but he had distortion for it (on Michigan Militia), other than that it's just a normal 5-string banjo. The guitar amp is a really small Fender, but I haven't been able to figure out exactly what it is yet. Dave has a few effects by him at shows, although Mike uses them too. He has a wah (for things like Sahara), delay (which I don't think I've heard used), compresser, and distortion (I'm not sure if it's a seprate box, or just a swicther for the amp). I missed any earlier post from you on this topic so I wondered. I'm sure somebody will be able to come up with all sorts of equipment details, maybe right down to what brand of strings and how firm the guitar picks each of the guys prefers but I think it's much more important to try to understand *how* they play rather than what. Choice of chord fingerings, strumming techniques, bass patterns and other stuff I know little about contribute more to their sound than whether the amp is a Peavey or a Fender. IMHO.
