I'm a DMB fan (not to the Fruvous point or >anything, but a fan nonetheless). I am not ashamed. hee hee...I just think it's interesting...I was visiting UVA for the last two days (and they don't carry a.m.m-f on their NG servers! The horrors!), and in one of the newspapers today, there was an editorial-type piece about how one shouldn't just go around saying "I love the Dave Matthews Band" just because they're popular...and here we are kind of doing the opposite. I mean, not just for DMB, but I've noticed a lot of people, definitely not just in here either, that eschew the more popular bands in favor of ones that aren't as popular. And it kind of got me to thinking...I mean, I like a lot of bands, popular (yes, I am a fan of DMB) and not-so-popular, and there are serious good and bad points to both popularity (easier to find stuff about the band in newspapers, etc vs there's no way in hell you'll ever be able to meet the band + the teenybopper contingent) and relative obscurity (when they come to your town[or you go where they're playing] you can say hello to them vs. you have to search for their cds off of the internet because there's no store within a 300 mile radius that carries their stuff). I was reading a post on a.m.dave-matthews a little while ago where someone called himself "a true fan" because all his favorite songs were the ones that were unreleased. Why would that make one a true fan? What makes that guy more of a fan than someone without any live concert tapes or who hasn't had the opportunity to see them, but who bought all their cds and listens to them regularly? I guessI just think it's interesting how a lot of people that are fans of obscure music think it's uncool to listen to popular music, and vice versa. There's not much of a difference, except with the popular groups, everyone knows who they are when you mention you like them. But it's such a charge when you mention an obscure group to anyone and they've actually _heard_ of them! Aleigh Check it out! Hi all! Well, tonight after work, as promised, I showed up at gate 3 of SkyDome with tickets to tonight's Raptors game, and Cameron Ross was there, along with Tim Cain and his wife (up here from the U. S. of A.) We went up (waaaay up) into our free seats in the "nosebleed" section, and had a pretty good time watching the Raptors lose pathetically. Halfway through the game, for some unknown reason, somebody behind us shouted "Spiderman!", and we all looked at each other thinking the same thing... "What, Mike's here, too??!!!?!" In case anybody's actually reading this who DOESN'T know their way around Toronto, a few of us are meeting up tomorrow (Friday) at 6:30 pm to trek on over to Lee's Palace by subway. I'll be in the Ramada lobby, 300 Jarvis St, about 6:15. See you there! (This is kind of a late posting for that kind of info, I know, but if anyone else from T.O. wants to meet up, c'mon down!
