Weird, I was just thinking about this today at the bus stop (well, I have to entertain myself some way). I think Big Fish is a cool song, and it really doesn't require *that* much explanation to get the basic idea of it. They'd just need to preface it with a little introduction, and I doubt that would be too difficult/unheard of for them. I don't see it becoming a set standard or anything, but I'd like to see it live. When I first heard this song, I had never heard of Mike Harris. In fact, i didnt know that the Mike in this song was a real person. I just figured it was like saying "joe" as in "joe cool" or "joe doctor" or in this case "joe right-wing-shit-politician". Like a John Doe. And even with that I thought the song was wonderfully witty, and very relevant. In fact, it was a song request (unfullfilled of course) that I made of Mike at clearwater. So, while the song might have *more* of a significance to those living under the (right) wing of Harris Government, it would not go unapprieated or not understood in other parts of the continent. As someone who's worked for a professional theatre for 12 yrs, I would like to give a few bests & worsts: One of the worst musicals EVER written(and I was happy to see someone else post this) is Meet Me In St. Louis!!! It's nothing but boring fluff & that damn title song is sung enough in the first 5 minutes to make you swear off theatre forever! Also, 42nd Street ranks down on my lows list. Best musicals,in my opinion, are Carousel(Rodgers & Hammerstein's best, I believe)Show Boat, Aspects of Love, Brigadoon, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Carnival, which is a rarely-done show but is truly a gem. If anyone is in the Philly area, The Media Theatre in Media, PA is doing a production of it till the end of Jan & they got a WONDERFUL review in The Philly Inquirer from Cliff Ridley(if you know who he is, you'll know hoe RARE that is!!) To = those who don't understand the exact circumstances, it's like = hearing Your New Boyfriend or any other political song that doesn't = reference a specific person.
