FRUCON III OPEN MIC (aka Proxy Fruvous) Hello campers! This year's much-awaited Fruhead Convention is approaching at an alarming rate (insert image of committee members popping valium). Among other heart-warming, toe-curling activities planned to entertain the frumasses during the Con, our team of trained experts specializing in... well, heart-warming and toe-curling activities, thought it would be peachy to have an OPEN MIC to let the talented among us show what they have previously only shown at family gatherings and/or to an unfortunate pet or spouse. Think you have what it takes? We're looking for anything Fruvous from parodies to covers to wacky versions of old favourites. Your song must be acoustic and of regular length, and a few mics will be provided. Your fate will be decided by a small panel composed of randomly picked conventioneers. If interested in performing, email us *BEFORE FEBRUARY 8* at openmic@fruhead.com with your NAME(S), the NAME and LENGTH of your SONG, and what your act is about. A few spots will remain free for day-of registration. Spots are assigned on a first come first served basis. If interested in being part of the PANEL, please *do not* email us: the panelists will be randomly selected by a draw at the Con. So come, come talented ones! Just felt like sharing what happened to me New Year's Day evening. My boyfriend and I joined two of my friends for a movie (GalaxyQuest! Not bad.) and for dinner and Trivial Pursuit at their apartment afterwards. We were having a great time and I was winning the game when it was decided to go out onto the balcony for a cigarette break. I'm trying to quit smoking, but the rest of them smoke, so all four of us went outside. Thad shut the sliding door as always and we were having a nice talk. When we decided to go back inside, however, we found that the door was locked! We struggled with it, trying to remove the door, but nothing worked. At one time Dana asked if any of us had our cell phones on us! Uh, no. She had her apartment keys on her, but the door didn't have an outside key hole. There is a bar behind their apartment building, and being about 11:30pm, we hoped to see people going in or out and try to get them to come in and let us in. The first lady we saw we shouted for her help (we were on the 3rd floor). She said, "Sure I can help. Why don't you jump!" Nice, eh. We finally found some human beings who came to let us in. We gave them the rest of our beer in payment and tried to warm up. (It was about 20 degrees out.) Dana says she'll never close that door all the way again. Moral of the story: If you are ever trapped on a third floor balcony in the middle of winter, make sure you have your cell phone on you. Good Night. On the one hand, it's an awesome song that is very = representative of the Fr=FCvous style. On the other hand, it's a = song about a specific person that most newbies and non-Canadians = can't appreciate. I know where Lawrence stands, but how about everyone else? Kaitlyn "Airborne with nothing to land on..." P.S. I've been promised that Big Fish will be played at Fr=FCcon. = My luck... I can't go. Strangely enough, this ties into the "Band = Nerd" thread. I have my marching band banquet that weekend. =3D / ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Jan 2000 23:44:57 -0500 From: "Neilbert" Subject: Re: Favorite Songs It's going to depend on my mood. Introspectively (ie, when I'd rather be mellow and thinking), it's going to be The Drinking Song, Misplaced, Gotta Get A Mesage to You, Fly (from Live Noise) and I Will Hold On. If I'm in that kind of mood, B won't make the rotation to begin with. :-) In a more upbeat mood? Then it's King Of Spain, You Will Go To The Moon, The Kids Song, Johnny Saucep'n (Live Noise), Half As Much. In that kind of mood, I tend to stay away from "Wood" as it tends to slow me down a bit. Have to pick only one? Grrrr. I Will Hold On simply because of what it got me through. - -- - -neil neilliam@hotmail.com www.neilbert.com wrote in message news:kIyc4.88470$n3.1141981@news0.telusplanet.net... > Bville- My Baby Loves a Bunch of Authors, Gulf War Song, and Laika. > Wood-Fly, Misplaced, and On Her Doorstep > B-Entropy, Kid's Song, Big Fish > You Will Go To The Moon- Kick in the Ass, You Will Go To The Moon, No No > Raja > Live Noise- Authors, Message, Fly > Thornhill- MPG, IWHO, Indy, and Splatter^2 > > That wasn't NEARLY as hard as I thought!!
