OK, maybe this is old news to you right coasters, but I just walked my dogs, and the moon is SPECTACULAR tonight! I'd heard all the hype about it being a solstice with a full moon, and yadda, yadda, but I really wasn't prepared for how amazing it really is! Either the apocalypse is nigh (or it could be just the smog here in LA,) but not only is the moon HUGE, but there are three--count 'em, three--rings around it tonight. Cookie said: >OK, maybe this is old news to you right coasters, but I just walked my >dogs, and the moon is SPECTACULAR tonight! Must be spectacular, if Cookie can see it in LA ... ;) The technical reason for this wonder is that the moon is at its perigee, which is to say the closest part of its orbit to earth, while full, at the time of the solstice. Happens once every 100+ years, so enjoy it folks! (Thanks to the M.I.A. chad for this technical info.) >Either the apocalypse is nigh (or it could be just the smog here in LA,) >but not only is the moon HUGE, but there are three--count 'em, >three--rings around it tonight. (Two are red, and one is green.) That's smog, sweetheart. Here it's white white white. Allegedly if there were snow on the ground we wouldn't need headlights while driving. But there's no snow on the ground, and I wouldn't recommend it even if there were. >Natural phenomena absolutely flabbergasts me. Yep! Gaargh. I'll take your word for it - that it's spectacular. The snow's kinda pretty, though. In its own way.
