Alt.music.moxy-fruvous is usually a pretty happening little slice of the web, but you seem to have stumbled in on us in the midst of "technical difficulties" (how embarassing... ;-). But I think you'll find a *few* other TMBG fans lurking silently in our midst. heh ;-) As for your question: Live Noise. And not just because it was *my* first fruvous album. But because it features not only wonderful music, including many of the "traditional" fruvous favorites, but also because it really showcases one of the band's forte's: live performance. Scattered throughout the songs are bits of musical/comical improv and intra-band banter that are hallmarks of the fruvous show, and this disc really gives a flavor of what the live fruvous experience is like. Just a flavor, mind you. The live fruouvs show must be truly expereinced to be belived ;-) Enjoy the road trip! ~jen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Nobody likes you when you're 23"-- Blink 182 "Do you know that you are very strong?"-- Grover "Measure your life in love."--Rent ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Dec 1999 23:11:22 -0600 From: Lisa Carpenter Subject: Hi! (finally) Greetings fellow Früheads! OK, I've been meaning to do this for a while. I've been lurking and doing some small posting for a few months, so it's about time I introduce myself to everyone. This kind of feels like I'm back in kindergarten but, here goes. My name is Lisa and I've been a Früvous fan since the summer of '93. I was introduced to them by my, at that time, best friend. Her sister brought a tape home from Vancouver, B.C. that I was taunted with over the phone by for about a month. (does that make any sence? oh well.) I finally got a copy of it when she came over to my house and happened to have it in her backpack. That November, the Lads played one of the theaters in town, that sold out before I knew about it : ( My friend, on the other hand, had two tickets, one for her, and one for......her DAD!! She gloated over that for a long time. The next summer I finally got to see the Lads when they played at the Ex (the local, yearly fair). It was sooooo cool! It was an outdoor, covered stage with a large, rush seating area, and it was free! They did two great shows, with a short break in between. During the break, my friends' parents showed up and she left. (woo-hoo. during video bargainville she actually grabbed my hands to stop me from clapping, which did not go unnoticed since we were sitting in the front row, stage dave) i lost contact with my Frü-side for a few years after wood came out. Don't get me wrong, I love the album, but things in my life got a bit strange and I couldn't find any room for Früvous. During this time, my so called best friend and I parted ways. (heh, her loss ; )) The next time I heard Früvous was on the radio after Get in the Car was released. Then last year, after Live Noise came out, I saw the boys again at the campus bar. The place was packed, and I was there with a different friend, her cousin and a bunch of his friends. Suffice it to say that the show kicked big time, and I was lucky enough to meet Mike and Jian afterwards. Within a week I had both YWGTTM and Live Noise. (i'm currently awaiting the b album and my 'i love canadian boys' shirt to come winging in from the quill) This past September, the Lads played the same place and again I went with my friend, but the rest of the gang couldn't make it : ( Once again, the show rocked, but the crowd totaly sucked. Jian introduced Boyfriend by saying something about his ex-girlfriends' new boyfriend and was greeted by utter silence!!(well, i was laughing my head off, but that was b/c he looked so completely annoyed at everyone else. they were trying so hard to put on a good show and were getting next to nothing back. argh to the nth) My friend and I got to talk to Jian again after the show, and while waiting for our ride to show up, we got to sing him a send off (though we could have picked a better song. i wanted to do LP#9, but my friend wanted to do the wellington song and i was too tired to argue) Shortly after that I got my new computer and hooked up to FHDC. I'm still pretty internet illiterate, but that should change after my brother comes home for Christmas. Anyway, that's my story. >waves< and >hugs< to all, and I hope to hear from and see you soon! Lisa (thinking of changing my signature to PrarieFrü. any suggestions/objections?) ******************** and these were our words our words were our songs these songs are our prayers these prayers keep me strong and i still believe..... ******************** ps. see, i told you my posts were going to be longer than my signature! ; ) ------------------------------ Date: 18 Dec 1999 06:02:31 GMT From: lunab1219@aol.com (LunaB1219) Subject: Over 19 only? Does anyone know if the 19 and over only is for ALL of the concerts in February in Toronto? If so, is there anyway I can get around it? Im 17, but I have convinced my parents, they say they will take me out of school for a week and bring me up there so I can see all of their concerts and the convention. Heres the other thing, my parents love Moxy too! They wanna go as well! It would be a great trip for me and my friends, being seniors and all... Seeing 19 and over upsets me very much. Please let me know asap! and thanks so much! I haven't posted in a long time! Well, today I was in Borders (In a different city) so I did my regular Fruvous check which I do in any music store I go into. Well, naturally, it being Borders, they had three Fruvous albums, but they were under the heading of "Moxy Furous" I was terribly amused, because usually people get it wrong because they hear it. But no, these people had made probably the silliest Fruvous spelling I have yet to see. Furous. Yeah. My other experience for the day was parking next to a car with a darwin fish on its bumper, with my pisco fish on mine. They face each other!!! It was great. As always, much gratutude to Kat. :) Hopefully I will post more soon! - -Joy (Who got the store manager to let her have the Furous tag. :) ------------------------------ Date: 18 Dec 1999 06:51:40 GMT From: gordonlew@aol.com (Gordon Nash) Subject: Re: mountain stage >oh, and after their set, the announcer says," That was Mike Ford, Murray >Foster, John Ghomeshi, and David Madison." Its what makes them special, so get Live Noise. I prefer the live version of every song they do and you get the banter which is an integral part of the act. Or for that matter, tossing them??? and after Chad and ellen and cookie all contributed their 2 cents, Genna added: >well, it seems i have come up with a different interp than the others who >posted, so i'll share. I think it's saying "take responcibility, take >action" >It says acknowlage what youve lost but pay attention to what's coming. >He's pointing out that "you keep handing out horseshoes" your giving them >away, for other people to deal with how they see fit. Gut intstints and principles >werent >ment to sit on, they were ment to cause action. >"Don't push the river, if you love it set it free." if you care about it, >take >care *of* it. To which I would add: and don't let possible consequences impede you from the action that on the gut-level you feel is needed, or most freeing. To me Horseshoes is a harsh, but profound, celebration of the courage that real freedom requires. Many people are afraid of the pain that truly free action -- and freeing the actions of others -- can bring, and it's a valid fear. Someone might wreck your train set if you give them free rein; someone might dump you. It seems easier, or safer, or more secure to stay bound in the chains of conventional relationships and responsibilities, and to try to keep those things or people you care about tied to you. But is that living up to your potential, or allowing others to do so in their relationships with you? Or is that living in fear, within limits imposed by some concept of safety and security, rather than to the fullest? And where is the guarantee that "safety and security" are more than an illusion anyway? The Horseshoes, to me, are choices, or opportunities -- the crossroads you come to in life, ready or not. You can hand out the Horseshoes, let others choose, never take control of your own life -- and always feel like a victim when things go wrong, or "lucky" when things go right, because you didn't really DO anything. Or you can toss them yourself. Ready or not, prepared or not for what life throws at you, how the Horseshoes land -- at least then you've given it your best shot, acted as best you could at the time. And hopefully that knowledge is far more empowering, even if things go badly, than choosing not to act and thereby living by the decisions of others could ever be. I hope that makes sense. I love this song as an affirmation of initiative, despite the seeming bleakness of its verses and foreseeing of "disaster". - -- Lori ************* then a flashback to the dream and angels singing songs ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V3 #1018 *********************************************
