I've never been to Ontario. Actually, I've never been out of Alberta - but that's something I'll just have to work through with my therapist. So I'm curious to know if someone knows of a decent hotel near the venue that doesn't cost mega$$$$. Anyone? Anyone? As in Boccaccio's? Yes, as in Boccaccio's bawdy medieval masterpiece of sex, lies and singing pleasant to the ear. It's my department's pet project, has been for several years. It's one of the major reasons I came to Brown. *grin* It's now being completely reworked, with some new tools and toys (like Dynaweb and partly SGML, for all you geeks). It'll be much more searchable, and will contain other works of Boccaccio's as well. The site that is up now contains a lot more than the text, so go check it out if you're even remotely interested -- it's like the Canterbury Tales... only better. :) - -v, ducks and runs from the English majors ;) P.S. Is anyone on here even remotely associated with *any* foreign language department at an accredited college/university, which has a graduate program? If you are, please contact me privately, as I am doing somewhat of a research of other schools that you just can't get from publications. Last year's Con hotel, the Ramada (former Clarion Essex), gave us a *group rate* (which is to say, you probably won't get a price that good... unless you ask nicely, and they say yes. Not a bad idea.). Here's the info for it from last year's FruCon flyer: - --------- Ramada Hotel and Suites Downtown Toronto 300 Jarvis Street, Toronto, Ontario M5B 2C5 Tel: 416-977-4823 or 1-800-567-2233 Fax: 416-977-4830 single/double - $99; triple - $109; quad - $119 CDN They would prefer not to put more than 4 people to a room. These prices then are subject to an 8% goods and services tax, as well as a 5% provincial sales tax. - ------------ As far as I remember, the cab ride from the hotel to the venue was, like, 5-7 mins., very manageable especially if 3-4 people split the costs ($10 CDN or so). Further quoting from the flyer, and I don't remember how far this is from Lee's: - ------------ Another lower cost option... The Backpacker Global Village, corner of King and Spadina (www.globalbackpackers.com). Rooms are for 8, 4 or a private room for 2. Co-ed, female or male floors, as well as various amenities, are available. The rates range from $20 to $24 CDN, depending on the room capacity (2 to 8 people). Tel: 416-703-8540 or 1-888-844-7875 - ------------ TAKE NOTE: When my honey and I stayed there for a night last year, we were both uncomfortable because of the unbearable heat in the room, which we couldn't turn down; there was only one window, so unless we left the door open (which we didn't want to do) there was no draft. See for yourself, maybe bigger rooms are better in that sense. We pretty much fried. - -v - -------- Vika Zafrin -------- vika@attglobal.net -------- http://www.brown.edu/Research/Decameron "Look at these tiny things bothering me." -David Matheson ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Dec 1999 18:39:18 GMT From: Marie-Claude Subject: Ticketmaster *Mistake* w/ Lee's Palace tix The Ticketmaster Canada site announces tickets for the shows on Thu Feb 17 and Fri Feb 18. I so had my heart set on going and I found out they were sold out 2 days before I called to order! :( I guess they even sold the tickets they usually reserve to be sold at the door!
