It does seem a little harsh and pessimistic when you look at it that way. Speaking as one who has been stepped on a time or two (and who fully realizes he was at least 50% responsible each time), I don't think I could ever stop accepting the possibility of something good along with the probability of friction. I think you can always take something good away from the things that don't work out, as long as you ultimately let them go. Angelo is my baby boy and he has always been a music freak. Greta prefers TV. As I sat down to my computer tonight I threw on Thornhill to relax me after feeling crabby all day. Angelo was snoozing in the other room, as normal. When IWHO came on, he ran into the room and stood in front of the speaker looking at the stereo! He is currently curled up in front of the speaker and looking at it in a way that shows that he is listening intently! I'm a little surprised as usually he only likes classical music. Beethoven and Chopin seem to be his favorites. I always knew he had good taste...I just didn't know how good! I've been lurking (and occasionally posting) here for about three weeks. So, I figured it was time to introduce myself. My name is Angela. I first saw Fruvous a few weeks ago at Somerville and was completely blown away (the first time I heard any of their music was that night on the way to the show). I also got to see them in Amherst as well as getting to meet a few ammf-ers and Jian!!!! Anyway, I was really bummed to find out the show at the Iron Horse was sold out and called up my friend, Cheryl, to tell her about it. Well, during our conversation I told her I was willing to do just about anythng to get to the show (calling a friend of a friend of a friend who knows the owners cousins brothers.....you get the picture). She stops me with, "You're going to make me ruin your Christmas present, arent you?" Yeah, she got tickets!!! Guess what I got her for Christmas...tickets to the Jan 1st show. Ooops. OK, I've taken up enough of you time. Just wanted to share my excellent Fru-day!!! He > said that there's a sense that that's the case - and that's > certainly the sense that I get. I can read, Kate; I don't share that sense. The difference is that you primarily go to shows in the east, where virtually every show is taped. What I said is that *my* sense is that taping is not a blanket that covers the Fruvous scene, although that does happen to be true in one geographical area. I made the effort to branch out geographically this year, so my viewpoint is going to be different than yours. By no means do I think Jian's statement was invalid, I was just pointing out that *I* don't feel that Fruvous tapers are that overwhelming. (Of course, maybe the fact that I could name a few shows that weren't taped does make it significant. Whatever. I'm not going to argue with myself on this point.) I can certainly see how a member of the band would come to think every show was being taped. If I were in that position, I think it'd drive me crazy, too. I'm not, though; I'm a fan with an opinion. > I feel sometimes like there are people who would record > the band snoring if they sold taper tickets. The people who tape Fruvous respected the ban. In my experience, they're careful about who they trade with and very much aware that taping is a privelege. If that's really how you feel about tapers and taping, think about your collection of recordings of live shows. We all benefit from a few people being willing to tape, and a few others being willing to trade; we benefit from the band's support of non-commercial taping. I think we owe all those people our thanks, not snarky remarks. - --Amanda, a master of snarky remarks, not making any right now * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet's Discussion Network * The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet - Free! ------------------------------ Date: 9 Dec 1999 03:30:33 GMT From: sdsfdfg@dfgdtfeedm.net Subject: PENIS..Enlarge Yours NOW!!! (Talk about "where did that sentence go"!!!! Whew!!) After that, I played it over and over again, especially on my little "Barenaked Vacation" this summer. (Besides, there was absolutely nothing to concentrate on between Detroit and Toronto, at least I had good music to listen to!!!!) However, I still have yet to buy another VH CD, mainly because I have no money right now since I have been spending it on Fruvous concerts!! I have also heard that Live Stages is one of the best. I do agree that Shackled is the best on the new one, and I even had the chance last week to tell Keith that. (It was a celebrity meeting week!!!
