Should that be ok even if it will encourage people to ask for tapes over the newsgroup?<< Yeah, I think this is ok. All except 2 of my recordings (not that I have that many ;-) have stemmed from some sort of public tape offer (be it being a quick-reply on one of Nate's offers; or the **very gracious** Josh offering to extend a CD offer--and even thow in some more--after I missed a cut off, or because I smartly chose to peruse Joe N.'s fruhead profile the first week of FHDC... ;-) I for one know that I hate to trouble or inconvenience anyone with making tapes/ CDs for me, *especially* since I don't have the means to pass them on. So I generally wait til I see something public, and take a stab at it. It's worked quite nicely. So yeah, keep the offers. ;-) As for the FAQ-- I think the steps you outlined, Chad, are a great primer. And if whatever's decided on can be pasted onto the trader page on FHDC, all the better ;-) ~jen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Nobody likes you when you're 23"-- Blink 182 "Do you know that you are very strong?"-- Grover "Measure your life in love."--Rent ------------------------------ Date: 07 Dec 1999 06:29:43 GMT From: jacey7@aol.com (Jacey7) Subject: Re: OT: RE: Village Voice blur on Fruvous >Actually, I'm pretty sure it's tweed. We here at Stage Murray would like to officially state our enjoyment and love of Russell Wolff :) Even though we were a little too far left to get most of the free stuff that was thrown into the crowd, some of us left the club with free nipples. Hurray! Seriously though, the guy is very talented, funny, and quite friendly. I would not mind seeing him open for Fruvous again (hint, hint!) > Oh... the lads were in high spirits, excepting the spreading Fru-Virus of > course... and poor emotionally distraught Mike had quite the violent reaction > to Stage Gnomes... that little pyro *smirk* Well, perhaps I shouldn't have yelled "Burn the gnomes! Burn the gnomes!" - but they were looking at me funny ... I was scared. Besides, it was only a matter of time before something violent happened to them. They've been asking for it :) oof. it's late. me sleep now. - -anna- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Dec 1999 14:14:28 GMT From: navratil@qix.gpcc.itd.umich.edu (Joe Navratil) Subject: Re: The ng and tape requests (was Re: Must I beg again?) Gella queried: >Anyone think It'd be good to be able to search for tape traders by the date >and/or venue of the show you're looking for? Yep, I think that's a great idea! Of course, I have a feeling Josh does too -- he put a text-search capability in at the top of the tape trading page on FHDC :-) (Finding a particular show can still take some work, since you have to think about all the different permutations people might use on their lists, but Josh has certainly made it scads easier than it used to be :-) ) -Joe ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Dec 1999 15:00:27 GMT From: vika@attglobal.net (Vika Zafrin) Subject: Re: The ng and tape requests (was Re: Must I beg again?) I'd love to provide some, but really, I can't find anything in your post to disagree with. :) You and Bridget pretty much covered it. The only thing I'm kinda weary of is that there will always be people who find the newsgroup and post before they read any of it and get a feel for it. Not scaring them off by sounding all pissed at them, *while* giving them helpful info, is the trick I've been struggling with. This should not be surprising as this is a smaller venue than the Amherst show, which also sold out. Also, previous shows at The Iron Horse have also sold out. I'm very surprised that Eric Suher's gang (who own all 3 major music venues in Northampton) didn't try to book them at Pearl Street, which is a much larger venue. I think they may be looking for some Iron Horse specialness for the "end of the millenium" which corresponds with a date approximately one year before the end of the millenium. (Although if you can't beat 'em, join' em) What's the joy in singing "party like it's 1999" when it is actually 1999?? (his guitar style also strongly reminded me of ani's, especially on one particular song, the title of which completely escapes me at present.) cut past great show, impending exhaustion, sleeping through most of sunday, and beginning of monday's workday. *snipsnipsnip* while reading the ng (as is my bent, especially on slower mornings) i came across his website address, so i checked it out. while there, i figured i'd drop a line to tell him how great i thought the show was. i sent it from my work email account (i work for a progressive student organization), as that is the preference address set for Netscape mail. i also subscribed to the maillist. *note that this seemingly frivolous info figures in later.* so, about 20 minutes later, my work phone rings. it is, you guessed it, russell wolff, calling to thank me for the email! my co-workers (who were also at the show) and i were totally floored. he said that he was really grateful for all the support he got at the show, and asked me if i knew any folks who did programming at any campuses i worked with. long story shorter, we chatted for about half an hour, and he was really friendly and cool. point of story: this guy is not only talented and funny, he is also loyal to supporters and committed to getting his music out there is a grassroots kind of way, which i, for one, really appreciate. i would highly recommend checking out his site (www.russellwolff.com) and picking up some of his music. hopefully, he will again be opening up for the frulads again sometime soon! ################################################################### The Student Association of the State University of New York "At the forefront of the progressive student movement since 1970" EDUCATE!
