First: the US does not refuse to "admit" a US citizen. This is not an option except perhaps in cases of high treason (where a state of emergency has been declared) or temporarily in cases where quarantine is an issue. Search the US Code (the collection of all federal laws) and you will find that "admission" is only used with reference to aliens. For a citizen there is no question about being "allowed" to enter the US. Second: an eighteen-year-old using a fake id to get into a club that's 19+ is not a minor. There's a lot of chaff where understanding these laws is concerned. Please don't add to the misunderstanding by asserting things without checking. What ho what ho what ho! (And other twee Englishisms.) The band toured in the UK several years ago now, doing the Edinburgh festival one year, and various small venues and summer festival appearances the next couple of years. We're talking about 1995 here. As far as I'm aware there are no plans for a future UK tour (boo! hiss! throwing rotten cabbages, shoes, etc) at least not without some impact on the UK charts first. If so, check out a live recording of a show from Chicago at Martyr's from last October at: http://www.jamtv.com/sections/venue/text/archives2.asp?from=&id1=502&id2=43535 2) Just give it a chance and I think you'll be impressed. Especially in a good Fruvous loving town like Philly. I've been to a show at the TLA there before and the crowd was the best (and one of the largest) crowds at any Frushow I've been to. It was really incredible. Especially don't be scared to go alone. If you are, you can probably meet up with some people from the newsgroup and you won't be alone any longer. It may seen like a really weird thing to do, but it works. I have never been to a BNL show, so I can't comment on similarity (though I do have a whole lot of BNL albums and I like 'em lots and I don't think musicially they are all that similar). Fruvous puts on the best live show I've ever seen. When they are at their best, they are beyond imagine. When they are mediocre, they are still better than most bands and still well worth $10 bucks. When they aren't on at all, well, that doesn't happen often (I've seen 3 shows where they were just plain off out of the 50 shows I've seen - that's a good average). Just give it a try. It's something to do really and if you like it, you'll look forward to the next time they come around. Oh and checkout FDC for Fruvous related information. It's at http://www.fruvous.com. If you want, you can read some old show reviews on there and get a (probably pretty biased) idea of what the shows are like. - Chad ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Jan 1999 08:56:43 -0500 From: Chad Maloney Subject: Re: song wish list acegelka@bonita.com wrote: > > Okay, here's a new thread with actual Fruvous content! Maybe they're sick of it? > Maybe everyone else is tired of it? I'd love to hear that again - and I > didn't think that would be as unlikely as "Nuits de Reve"! Well, I don't know about the band being tired of it, but there are a good number of Fruheads that were very vocally sick of it. My opinion of why it isn't being played so much now is because it is pretty much in the same vein as some of their other songs and in order to get a good balance, they put in Jockey or Half as Much and not V'B'Ville. Funny Video B'ville anecdote from the NKU show: So, there were some people who came in late and Jian was teasing them. Mike said they were the rich snobs who didn't want to wait in line and wanted to come in at the right time. Jian commented about the "unsavory third song", which was Video Bargainville and then threatened to play the beginning of the show over again, soliciting a "not Video Bargainville again" groan from some us. Of course he might not have meant all that to be so funny, but I thought it was absolutely hilarious. Your mileage may very. - Chad [1] Isn't it something like Hunt for the Dangerous Pork Tenderloin or something? [2] [2] Okay, I guess I have some idea.
