I loved Jewels first album. It just got too much radio play I cannot give love to that woman. I mean, hello, my Trite-Detector is going off like there's no tomorrow! Yeesh. And have you people read her "poetry?" My dead cat can string words together with more "deep, philosophical, grab-your-soul" meaning than little Miss Thang. *sigh* If hers is the only poetry that the youth of America is exposed to, it is truly indicative of the sad state of the union. >nope, not even..... I will admit that I thought Mama was a cute song Get out! That's the one on that album that I ALWAYS skip. Without fail. Hate it hate it hate it. For you Spice Haters out there, there is one song that I play for anyone who is resistant to their charms: "Lady Is A Tramp" off of Spice World. It shows they've got some musicality, and is, I think, pretty darn cool. Just a thought. Now if anyone out there is gonna complain for my complete lack of sensitivity and ability to open my soul to Jewel's writing, I challenge you to read the works of W.H.Auden or John Donne or Edna St. Vincent Millay and tell me that their poems aren't infinitely more masterful and beautiful than "I'm writing/ this letter to tell you/ I don't love you anymore./ I don't miss you./ I never have." Rubbish. Putrescence. Okay, that's enough of Heather's rant on poetry (and other lack-of-Fru-content-nonsense). Adieu, mes amis. I did love Dave's remark at a show late last year when somebody requested Big Fish; the essense of the remark was that it was now time to request the songs that hadn't been requested already, scraping the bottom of the request barrel. Anyway, I'd love to hear Grudge. I'd also love to hear MPG again. They did a nice job on Sad Today at the Iron Horse and I think it'd fit in with the songs they're playing now; they could put it in a setlist now and again, and it would make me happy. Also, they could sub in Signed, Sealed Delivered for Love Potion and I'd love that. Also, I know they're doing Stuck in the 90s as a commentary on the mess in US and Canadian politics; but I think It's Too Cold is the perfect song for that. Other stuff they're doing now that I love: I hope Early Morning Rain turns up on the new album. It sounded a little rough the first time I heard it (halloween) but it's been a real pleasure to listen as it gets better and better. The harmonies are unusual and beautiful, and it's a great tribute to Gordon Lightfoot that they're doing it again. Somebody requested Lazy Boy at one of the New Year's Day shows, and Mur kind of rolled his eyes as he said "No, songs we actually *play*." To that end, we can want to hear them do certain songs live all we want, but I figure there's a good reason why certain songs don't pop up very often. I'd like to see the King of Spain become a rare treat rather than seeing the guys get bored doing it. Granted, I'd miss the bass line of the short GE%H, which would almost certainly go with it, but I look at it this way: I really like what the guys are doing now, and I'd hate to think that they're being held back in terms of the live show because they're catering to a crowd that still wants to hear the old stuff. There are songs from Bargainville and Wood that I'll probably never hear played live. That's OK with me. I'd like to see Fruvcus take a stab at the Pogues "A Pair of Brown Eyes," which would make a lovely encore with the Drinking Song. I'd rather hear risky new stuff like Downsizing than BJ every night. It's not that BJ isn't a good number that's really evolved over the years, but your run of the mill fans should give new material a chance. (Like the friends I was with during the first 12-31 show, who claimed to like Fruvous, but were disappointed in the No Bargainville setlist; obviously I'm not talking about Fruheads here...) Just ranting. I don't have opinions or anything. ;) - --Amanda "You are all welcome in Virginia!" -- Shakespeare in Love - -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 Jan 1999 22:59:54 GMT From: Christi218@aol.com Subject: Re: 1/2 review, and idiotic fruhead antics (2nd sending) In a message dated 99-01-15 02:03:39 EST, gemini@p3.net writes: > On 15 Jan 1999 02:24:02 GMT, fruwench@aol.com (FruWench) wrote: > > >Ummmm, wasn't me.
