The media *can* be quite biased, but it can also be informative and helpful. I think it's quite an overgeneralization to say "the media has no morals". I think that some news corporations are able to deal with some issues intelligently and sensitively. From what I've read (which is a lot), I've gotten the impression that there are many inspired journalists who dedicate their careers to depicting the news in as truthful a fashion as possible. I may be looking at things through rose tinted glasses, but I am an aspiring journalist- gee, can you tell?:-). I guess I want to have a little faith in the career I'm thinking of going into :-). Although originally the email addy had nothing to do with me liking the show or not. And if you watch some of the early eps, I can see what you mean about the acting. And the extras can be a bit flaky too. But David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are both skilled actors, in my opinion. Yes, there are other, better actors out there. But they're still good. Also, I enjoy the show because I *do* believe that we are not alone in the universe, or even the galaxy, for that matter. Anyway, I'm not going to ramble on anymore about why I like the show. Suffice to say that I do, a lot. I'm only going to answer the question. Mulder or Scully? Well, Scully's cute and all, but so skeptical! I'm definitely a Mulder person. At heart a majority of people who read the reports are just voyeurs at heart, and so ashamed to admit it that they cry foul against the man their peeking at. Perhaps if the general population weren't so sexually repressed this whole thing would have dissapated on its own... but that's a completely different conversation in itself.* Anyway, I fully agree that politicians are the _last_ people I'd turn to for moral or spiritual guidance. (off the off-topic) I've had a couple of opportunities to meet Sen. Alfonse D'Amato... he's a big $$ contributor to the Roch Inst of Tech (my alma mater) and between AFROTC functions and RIT Singers gigs we'd end up in the same vecinity. Greasy, oily, sly, untrustworthy, smarmy and downright icky... that was the impression I got. During the elections for NYS Governor one of the candidates ran a commercial where Gov. Pataki was requesting an outlandish loan to make it appear that everything was fine and dandy, and when the banker realized he was talking to Pataki he shook his hand and then wiped that hand with a handkerchief. That was exactly the way I felt when I met D'Amato!!! My point being that I find it difficult to put any politician (based on my personal acquaintance) in a position to be a "model of moral behavior." - --Angie (believe it or not, I'm in a better mood, just still not making any sense, haha) On the Road of Life I strive to be a Speed Bump ____________________________________________________________________ More than just email--Get your FREE Netscape WebMail account today at http://home.netscape.com/netcenter/mail ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Dec 1998 14:11:10 GMT From: cricket5@hotmail.com Subject: ATTN: IMPORTANT FRUCON INFO Hello Fruheads and NG readers :) Now, that I have your attention, I would like to invite everyone who is planning on attending the 2nd Annual FruHead Convention to please preregister at frucon2@canada.com. Continuing with the off-off-topic: Back in college (Part I) I worked for my school's program council, and had the duty of taking tickets at a lecture by the recently-ousted James Watt[1]. I joined the audience a little late, and heard Watt say something to the effect that "black families don't need as much as white families, because they naturally have a lower standard of living" or some such. I approached the microphone and said, "Excuse me, but that comment didn't make sense at all to me. Could you please explain what you mean by that?" He told me that if I didn't understand, I must have missed the beginnning of his lecture. I said yes, I did; I was outside taking tickets. So he attempted to clarify by saying the exact same thing: Black families simply have a lower standard of living than white families, so they just don't need as much. I looked at him and said, "No, sir, that still doesn't make any sense to me," and sat down to a round of applause. I related this anecdote recently in college (Part II), to be met with blank stares and "Huh? Who?" from my classmates. The teacher got a big kick out of it, though. k@ [1] Secretary of the Interior under Ronald Reagan, subscriber to the "The world's gonna end soon anyway so we might as well use it up fast" ideology ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Dec 1998 19:33:50 GMT From: Angie Armstrong Subject: Twas the Tues before Christmas, and all through the ng and not a subscriber was posting, 'cept k@ at me... or so it would seem.
