If the artist is signed to a record label, then they are only seeing just under $2.00 a CD. If they are independent, they tend to see quite a bit more. The difference is quantity. Just wanted to clear that up. But I would have to agree with your statements of art as commodity. The artist released it, they must have been okay with it at that time. Besides, it only helps to show the evolution of the artist, for better or worse, which I personally find fascinating. Body of work & all that... It is the personal opinion of this author and in no way reflects the sentiment of New Horizons, Netscape, Moxy Fruvous, www.fruvous.com, or any participants in the associated newsgroups, mailing list, or IRC chat rooms. However, if you are inclined to agree in any way shape or from... thank you for understanding. **** I'm going to sit here and be hypocritical again... because generally I believe that one should be well-informed on a topic or situation before passing judgement or commenting, and I am violating my own pet peeve. I'm not really very political, in fact... I hate politics. The whole concept turns my stomach and I try to avoid it until election time. I'm a rather empathic person, meaning I generally judge by the feelings I get from or about a person- in any level of association. Anyway, Thinking back to a time about 7 years ago, when my friend TJ and my cousins and someone I've since dated and broken up with all went overseas for Operation Desert Shield... I remember the pit in my stomach when I heard it became an Offensive Operation. I knew it was going to happen, I was in AFROTC and it was the only topic of conversation (I was taking History of Airpower at the time and the Prof of Aerospace Studies decided to make it a current events class). That didn't do anything to ease the shock and distress of it happening. People I knew were going to war. I remember the hell following Desert Storm, I remember helping to piece someone's life back together when he came home, and almost losing myself in the process. I remember the footage; the embarrassing tallies of deaths and injuries by "Friendly Fire;" I remember thinking then that, "Oh, here's this nice and neat little war-like skirmish that will make everything alright for President Bush." Which at the time as an AFROTC cadet, was a no-no; bad mouthing the Commander in Chief. Well, I think it accomplished little then... other than flexing American muscle and showcasing state-of-the-art technology that behaved in most cases little better than the launching of Win 98 (OK, maybe I'm exaggerating a little). To crush the snake you must strike at the head, not at the tail or the belly. When dealing with a madman like Hussein, there's no room for diplomacy or tact, or charity. He is a madman bent on turning this into his own Holy War, dragging his already suffering and unwilling people into a pointless massacre. My feeling then, and my feeling now... was to forget all of these organized offensives. Send a guerrilla force into Bagdad and deliver Saddam's head on a silver platter to the UN... impale his body on a stake in front of Lady Liberty and end it once and for all. As I said before, I'm being hypocritical because I haven't studied every minute detail of the situation (honestly I haven't had time between teaching and prepping for classes). This is my feeling, my personal emotional take on the situation. If I've offended anyone with either my violent reactions or my inherent lack of factual backing, my apologies. - --Angie, you can take the girl out of the military, but apparently you can't take the military out of the girl. I felt compelled to contribute my own post as war/the threat of war triggers such an emotional and fierce desire for peace in me. I don't mean to offend anyone. I don't approve of the American government's decision to bomb Iraq. It's not that I think Saddam Hussein is this great and wonderful leader, because I don't think that; it is just that I hate and fear war so much. It would be easy for me to say that war doesn't accomplish anything, but it has: it makes some nations richer (not necessarily a good thing; Monique knows my qualms with money/the way many people view it) and sometimes means the "freedom" of a nation or a people. However, war has too many negative actions (the murder/rape of civilians), consequences, causations, and side effects for me to condone it. As horrible as this would be, if Hussein has all these "weapons of mass destruction," why hasn't he used them against us? Maybe he *is* afraid that the U.S. will use its "weapons of mass destruction," which it has in abundance, against him. The U.S. hasn't had the experience of the horrors of war (except for those fighting in wars); only once has it been bombed. One of these days, that luck may run out. That is what I fear, more so because I am often unable to be with the ones I love (one in particular). Therefore, any threat of war switches on my overprotective mode and my overly-strong desire for peace. Okay. I think I should stop ranting now. A possible alternative to war: have the country leaders battle it out in a boxing/wrestling ring; that way, there's no need for militaries and civilians don't get killed. Mossad, the Israeli equivalent of the CIA/Navy SEALs, has already tried to assassinate Hussein many, many times, all to no avail. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it could be tough. Also, the international community, especially France, Russia, and China, are already displeased that we have ordered air strikes. Not saying that it's that important if other countries like us or not, but assassinating the leader of a foreign country tends to make other foreign leaders a bit nervous. And that's not always a good thing.
