Hmm, it just occurred to me that I don't remember if I sent him my last change of address notice. But then, he still hasn't gotten around to cashing the check I wrote him, um, *last* November. Jas, consider this a reminder... and if I owe you a change of address please let me know. I think "self-referential" is possibly a better term. They divided the crowd into sheep, cows, dogs and the "ruling elite" at the Nov 6th Tralf show. I think this was a remnant. Those sheep people were totally not with it though. It always took them a while to actually baa. > GE&H and Drinking Song? Dunno about GE&H but Mike was commenting on Drinking Song afterwards. Dan asked if I could copy some shows for him. I told him that I could copy "a couple" shows for him. He never made a specific request in e-mail per the clear instructions on my webpage: "If you'll be sending me blanks and a padded SASE, this still needs to be setup in e-mail. Any random tapes that arrive without prior discussion are gonna take a long time getting done." Dan didn't send me blanks right away but instead waited a while... over 2 months - long enough that I no longer had time to copy these for him. He also sent 8 CDRs requesting four shows... nothing arranged in advance, and I wouldn't really call "four" a couple. Of these, only two shows are even on CDR. This SNAFU can at least be avoided when things are arranged in email before sending anything. Admittedly, he attempted to contact me in email a few times and didn't receive a response, so perhaps this was his only choice. It seems that 99% of b&p offers and trades go smoothly, but you can never quite get that other 1%. I've received blank tapes with no postage, no return address, nothing arranged at all in advance, and people who don't take "I'm sorry - I'm really too busy right now" as an answer. And of course there are the ones that are completely *my* fault. Much as I'd love to be on tour all the time, and do archiving for a living, I have a demanding job schedule that sometimes leaves free time for just eating and sleeping. As one of the few people taping Fruvous shows, I feel an obligation to try to get tapes out there, especially to other fans who are willing to spread the word. As such I do sometimes make offers that my schedule doesn't allow me to keep. My apologies for anyone who feels inconvenienced. My cat is neutered and can have no idea of the what it means to be neutered. `Integrity' is something that we project onto the animal. > I think people who are compassionate vegetarians (i.e., vegetarians who are so > at least partly out of moral reservations against eating meat) should think > hard about their exploitation of pets. > Yup, I'm a `compassionate vegetarian' and I've thought hard about this. My relationship with my cat is two-way; I get my vanity massaged by his companionship. I also get a house full of fleas every summer, fur in my food, a clawed sofa, vets' bills, dead mice in the bath, a litter-tray to clean out and a yowling hairy monster demanding to be fed whenever I want a lie-in. The cat gets fed, sheltered, warmth and regular medical attention. Whether he feels anything like the affection for me that I feel for him I couldn't say, but even if he doesn't then its still a fairly fair relationship I think. My guilt in pet owning comes not from the exploitation of the pet, but from the fact that my pet gets treated better than most homeless people in London, never mind the malnourished in the developing world. > But I don't think you can > logically make a justification for pet-keeping. > Logic? Can you make a logical justification for having cushions on your chair or wallpaper on your wall? My life is happier with a pet than it would be without. My pet's life is at least better fed and warmer than it would be without me. He's free to leave if he doesn't like it. Tinkerty tonk Richard `I feel sorry for people without cats.
