I do get to post =] Actually, that's Dave's line, making it a lot more funny since Dave probably doesn't really care at all =) In Marion Fruvous, he used to say "And the Leafs top defenseman has gone to the Jets". Well, the lack of Winnipeg Jets in the world kinda kills that line. For awhile, he'd still say it and Murray would look at him like he had something awfully wrong with him. So he changed it up to be "The Leafs are all wet with that Cujo in net" and Murray responsed "Actually they are doing quite well". Not quite so funny as when the Jets all Dave up to drive the zamboni though... - Chad ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 04 Dec 1998 09:19:57 -0500 From: Chad Maloney Subject: Re: Nields/EFO "Jordan I. I'm in the know about EFO and the Nields, though I've only been to one EFO show (opening for Fruvous) and maybe 3 Nields shows (2 opening for Fruvous), I have 10 CDs between the 2 bands and each of them has a place in my CD player at times. Eddie From Ohio is a rollicking folk band with great vocals and a very talented percussionist (Eddie). Julie is a great great singer and provides a good lead female voice (but they all sing a lot). Robbie is just fun to watch, does good guitar work and sings. Am I forgetting someone? Oh, yeah. The bass player[1], Mike Clem, has a bass just like my fretless *grin* All in all, a very fun group that I'd recommend in a heartbeat. http://www.efohio.com for more EFO info. I have 4 EFO discs. A 2 disc live set called The Portable EFO show, A Juggler on his Blades, and Big Noise. Love 'em all. The Nields are closer to rock folk. They have a large range of music, but most of their newer stuff is harder and more instrumentally complex that what I think of as folk. The band is 3 Nields and 3 Daves and is 5 people in total. Because of that, Dave Nields is the lead guitar player and he's great. He really gets into it and his shiny bald head may be calling out to all you Dave-O lovers. The lead vocals are shared amonst the two other Nields, Katryna and Nerissa, and they harmonize and have a lot of power in their singing. Katryna is also very active in the live show =) Dave the percussionist is also very good. Somewhere between a good percsussionist and the percussionist for Johny Vegas I guess. Fun to watch. I think I'm forgetting someone again. Nields, Nields, Dave Nields, Dave.. oh yeah. The bass player[1] is Dave Chalfant and he is techically quite good. His equiptment is superbly cool. Last 2 times I saw the Nields he even had a custom electric upright. Cool stuff. Unfortunately for Chalfant, the other Nields are active enough on stage to keep my eyes constantly watching his bass work *grin* http://www.pobox.com/~nields for more Nields info (I remember it, but they don't *grin*). I have lots of Nields discs. Gotta Get Over Greta is probably still my favorite. I also have Bob on the Ceiling, Abigail, Play, and Mousse. All good stuff... - Chad [1] Yes, I'm being facetious. I had those descriptions written bass player first originally. I admit it. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 04 Dec 1998 16:18:48 GMT From: Eve Lauria Subject: Re: a real spanish inquisition/ithaca setlist > chad wrote: > > > > going to be a whopper. However, in the environment I'm in now it's hard to stick to. When I graduate and am left to my own devices I plan on being vegan. Truth is I am camera-shy, I usually try to discretely disappear when I see people getting ready to take pictures. I guess I didn't move far enough away, and whoever was taking the picture accidentally (or purposely?) included me and my jersey. But now that it happened that way, it is kind of funny, given Jian's insistence that he not be photographed with Flyers jerseys. Of course, he'll hate me forever, and I'll be banned from all Fruvous shows. I figured Mike must have been a Winnipeg Jets fan, because I've seen him wear that jersey a few times. And the Jets are now the Phoenix Coyotes, who just happen to have the best record in the NHL. I remember Mike doing a verse in Minnie the Moocher at the Appel Farms Folk Fest in '96, during the NHL playoffs, about the Red Wings now being the Dead Things, because they had just lost a playoff series against the Colorado Avalnache. He also added the the Jersey Devils were dead too, they should've kept Lemieux. (That's Claude Lemieux, who got trade to the Avalanche after the Devils won the Cup in '95, and helped lead the Avalanche to the Cup in '96; not to be confused with Mario Lemieux, who retired from the Pittsburgh Penguins a couple of years ago, and now seems to be a permanent lyric in Boo Time, "Mario Lemieux throwin' in the towel".) -Alan ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 04 Dec 1998 10:42:25 -0600 From: Josh Drury Subject: Re: Stand and be counted Bodaceah wrote: > > Here in the United States 10% 0f the population holds 90% of the wealth. If 21 feels old, how am I supposed to feel at 39? Actually, seeing posts on this topic from people of various ages puts the whole thing in persepective. We all get older every day, so it's a natural phenomenon to have this feeling of "I'm xx years old now, older than I've ever been, so now I feel old". I remember feeling "old" at 21 too, but now I look back and it seems I was so young then. Hopefully, someday I'll be able to look back at being 39 and say I was so much younger then. I've always looked younger than my age. When I was in my 20s, this used to bother me. I would get annoyed about getting carded, or people assuming I was a college student. This changed on the day of my 30th birthday (boy was I feeling old that day!). I went to a bar and got carded, and for the first time, I was happy that someone would think I might still be under 21. Since then, I've never wanted to start looking my age. When I go to concerts and I find myself among the older folks in the crowd, sometimes it makes me feel old, but generally I let it make me feel young, to be in a crowd of younger people and enjoying the same music, and I can act young and not feel self conscious about it. I believe going to lots of shows helps keep one young at heart. -Alan "I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now" -Bob Dylan ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 04 Dec 1998 11:00:34 -0600 From: Josh Drury Subject: Re: Freebird/Skynyrd Srm9988n@aol.com wrote: > > Here I go, using my very own links for mass edification :P > > Maybe now AJ will recognize it -- it's one of THOSE songs that I can't > imagine someone never having heard, because I've heard it waaaay too > much, specially in high school. Well, there are a couple things to keep in mind with Newsgroups: 1) Newsservers range in quality for mediocre to extremely sucky. If your newsserver fell into the extremely sucky category at the wrong time, maybe it decided to not post things. This can also happen to the mail<-->news gateway I'd assume if the newsserver the gateway posts to and reads from has an extremely sucky day. 2) Group dynamics in a newsgroup are like a bulliten board When you post something, it doesn't always get replied to. Especially when the ng is very high traffic and there are a smaller number of people reading all the posts, the chance that someone who has a response to something you post is decreased. And sometimes something you really want to be discussed doesn't interest other people as much, so it kinda just stops dead. I know I've done that a lot and it takes some getting used to. It isn't people hate me or think I'm being silly and my post wasn't worth the screen space it was displayed on... - Chad ------------------------------ Date: 4 Dec 1998 19:54:01 GMT From: "amy" Subject: Re: feeling old Alan's post made me remember why I believe that "feeling old" -- like age itself -- is all relative.
