I know that it >happened, I just can't figure out *how*! This is not based on fact just a thought (or opinion) I believe that when the mostly English people with Christian backgrounds came to America, they established traditions based on their own backgrounds and information. I lived for 3 years in a YMWHA( Young Women & Men's Hebrew Association), supervising the residents. The building closed early (sundown) on Fridays and all day on Saturdays, reopened on Sundays. I can't tell you how many people claimed that was dumb. I shrugged and said it's the Hebrew tradition (sabbath). My understanding is that Sunday is the sabbath for most (if not all, I dunno - but am learning [just added "the idiots guide to World religions to my collection of books]) Christian based religions. Now I wonder why we accept liquor not being sold on Sundays, stores closing early on Sundays, and Sunday is politically ( refering to liquor LAWS) a day of rest. This doesnt seem fair to the Hebrew traditions?? Just an observation of mine... I don't believe it is a vicious/malicious intent of Christians, I think it is just tradition. I think "we" just accept what has happened in the past, as well as embracing it, if we are Christian. I also belive that traditionally Christianity has been the leading religion, therefore majority rules. We could get into the whole ethnic topic too and the small chains as opposed to the large (Starbucks). Mosy of us choose our battles and some of us concentrate a lot more on thier own lives. Sometimes we have to. I admire fruvous, among MANY other reasons, because of their awareness of these issues and their unwillingness to conform. I think religion is a touchy subject and most people end up thinking badly of it, because of the desire and tradition that some religions have to recruit. Me, Im all about Zen and Buddhism, more a way of thinking than a story to believe in. that's just me. - -Lynne >Jesus taught tolerance and love, PS. I would venture to guess that people who aren't taught about Jesus, would be more likely to fear the unknown, and possibly make not so good judgements relating to him and his way. ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V2 #81 *******************************************
