Hey, I can't help it, I'm a girl at heart :) Fact is, and I believe it's the point Joni also was making, which then got perceived as an attack on Pisco, which it wasn't: *everyone* I've encountered who's heard IWHO, boy or girl, thinks that it is *gorgeous*. Now, I like quirky as much as the next Fruhead, but imho Pisco, however endearing and expressive of the Fruvous esprit, is not and never will be a mainstream song. So if our heroes want to cross over -- and I'm not saying they do, but that *is* one of the premises of this thread - -- it's going to be with a song like Sad Girl -- which is way too deep to really be just a "girl song" -- or IWHO. Not something like Pisco, or Organ Grinder, or No No Raja. These songs are wonderful examples of the diverse musical skills, imagination, and clever humor of the Frus, and Murray is *so* funky in Pisco, and Jian is *so* sexy in Raja...but we're talking Marketing 101 here, and offbeat is frowned upon in that context! That was way more that 2 cents, I realize. PEI has the lowest highest point of all Canadian provinces and territories, somewhere between 300 and 400 metres, I believe. It's the only one without any mountains in it (or hills which are called mountains, like we have here), not even any highlands. Hi y'all -- Hope everyone had a marvelous weekend. I just have to jump in on this thread to spread the word about the group I went to see (in DC) on Saturday night, because I was thinking that some of you folks would appreciate them as much as I do. Sweet Honey In The Rock is their name, and they're an a cappella group, originally from the DC area, made up of 5 women (with incredible voices and musical abilities) who do traditional and contemporary African American music. (And a sixth woman who is their sign language interpreter.) Part chant, part choral, part gospel, part blues, part rap -- their range is amazing, and they do all the writing/arranging/producing. (See, this is sort of Fru-related!) The concert I went to was their 25th anniversary show and it was truly inspirational, as these women always are. Their newest cd is called "...25..." and it's great -- but they have many others as well. Don't mean to rave and gush, but if you ever get a chance to see Sweet Honey -- it's a wonderful experience. Different from the Fruvous experience, but *almost* as fun! :) And, I don't know why, but it occurred to me that not only would Fruheads like Sweet Honey, but their the type of group that some of the Fruvous guys themselves would appreciate. Maybe somebody out there has heard of Sweet Honey and knows what I'm babbling about? The guest list just gets you in without a ticket, you'll probably still be carded. If it's because you can't afford the tickets, I dunno how appropriate that is.
