Better late than never. First, as always, what makes this group so great is how much we share. Not always just the good stuff. And how much we think. Second, Dante, I understand your feelings and certainly when you are close to or currently immersed in a situation such as you describe it can be tough to feel anything but the blackness of despair at anything that reminds you of the situation but one of the great powers of music is the way the saddest gut-wrenching song can make you feel happy. This cathartic release in a public arena produces the a kind of mild euphoria that results in group activities (like swaying) that comes from people feeling they have shared something with everybody in the room. Same way gospel music comes from the deepest, darkest, despair and transcends it and lifts the people up even as they explore and acknowledge the depth of their pain. Enough. /end lecture Third. Lori. What a wonderful post. I printed it out and gave it to my 15yr old son. He lives with his mom and sometimes it's hard to find ways to bring these kinds of topics into the short time we have together.
