Whatever. Way to earn your street money, > people. Man, Canadian elections aren't half the fun American ones are. We can't even do attack ads right. American attack ad: "Jeffrey Feiger often eats small children and puppies for supper, according to the Detroit Daily News. Vote for John Engler: he's not a damned cannibal. Paid for by Don't Let Feiger Destroy Civilization Inc." Canadian attack ad: "Well, I think it's possible that John Turner might not make a very good Prime Minister. Please vote for Brian Mulroney, if you want to. Paid for by the Progressive Conservative Party." Let's face it, living in a country where "Joe Who?" is the height of newspaper slander just ain't that exciting. - -D. I can tell you that Libertarians are generally considered to be radicals down here. F'rinstance, one of the Massachusetts candidates was an openly gay nudist. He was nude in his publicity photos (nothing obscene, just bare chested). While this shouldn't have mattered one whit, of course it *did.* So much for focusing on the issues. I voted at 6 p.m. There was one gubernatorial candidate sign-holder outside and that was it. I was surprised that I didn't have to show ID in order to vote. I was *not* amused when the poll workers were amused by the fact that I had to duck coming out of the voting machine so as to avoid banging my head on the curtain rod. - --Adam adamh@javanet.com Fruvous content: I was listening to YWGTTM in the car on the way to and from the polling place. - -----Original Message----- >Condescending campaign workers? What norg said. Actually, the theoretical *point* of affirmative action when it was first proposed was that experiencing reverse discrimination would enlighten the majority. Hrrummphh. (me thinks that was John Rawls, as me tries to recall back way too far to a senior-year ethics class). Anyways, on that level it's basically been a disaster, But on the level of helping deserving people get to a level of parity when otherwise they perpetually would have been behind the opportunity curve, I think it's a worthwhile policy that, despite some abuses, should NOT bedismantled wholesale. Have to agree with Trace here, thanks again Chad!
