What better way to start the new year? Oh yeah... Phish at MSG 12/28 > through 12/31. Jian said more or less just that at the NKU show. It sounds like Fruvous is potentially playing all 3 nights. I don't know how (who is opening or whether it is co-billed or what), but 6 Dan Bern shows in 3 days is great - then you add in Fru-potential and it seems like a dream! When Jian was talking about that, he had this dramatic pause before he let out Dan Bern. He had mention NYC first, so my brain was thinking hit Frushow then late Dan Bern show. Then Jian started pausing and I added in Tory Cassis opening to the dream. But then he said Dan Bern and I felt disheartened for all of 2 seconds before my mind went back to getting to hear Dan 3 times and Fruvous too! I wonder if it is Dan solo or with band? And it'll be a change to meet some of the other db-list people too and see if all they do is argue about politics and capitalism in real life too... *grin* - Chad ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Oct 1998 00:10:44 GMT From: MorpheusOB@aol.com Subject: Wow, thanks. Wow, a lot of people really offered me a lot of help with the Noho show. I really appreciate that. And a few have already figured out what's going on. Once again, for suprise sake, I need to ask a weird favor. If you know or think you klnow what's going on, please don't discuss it at the Iron Horse at all before the show, like out on line or something. I know it's weird, but the more planning I put into this, the more paranoid I'm getting. Just saw him in Rochester on Saturday night (with Cheryl Wheeler). He was great, as ever. And FYI, he's going to have a new, live CD out in December, recorded recently in Ireland! For anyone who may have been wondering, I haven't quite fallen off the face of the earth (grin)! I've spent the last few months engaging in that perennial ritual called "finding a new job." You know, the write the resume/do the interview/wait for an offer/wait for an offer/ (n+1)...../get the offer (!YAY!)/train someone to do your old job/leave your old job/try to learn the new job/wonder what in *hell* you've gotten yourself into routine? Anyway, that plus a few little personal bumps in the road kept me pretty busy this summer/early fall, but I've been lurking occassionally and Zard has kept me posted on all the new developments that I've missed. I'm so excited to see so many new people here! And looking forward to meeting a bunch of you at NoHo! So, for all you forbearing fruheads who listened to me gripe about my old job, thanks for your patience! I have left the evil empire of management consulting and am happily employed by an internet service provider, writing policies and procedures and hanging out with programmers with long blue hair. It's like high school all over again (grin). And I get to wear jeans!! (yippeee!) See you soon! chris **** "And where would we be without a bass guitarist?" (No kibbutzing, Chad M!!). Seriously, even though Chad and I are always oohing and aahhing over Murray's playing, bass players typically don't get the recognition they deserve for what they bring to a band. A band composed of wonderful musicians can sound really amaturish if their bass players suck. Some players, like Murray bring more than just your standard groove, they develop a bass playing style that is distinctive and adds a particular "stamp" to their music. Victor Wooten, John McVie, and John Entwhistle spring to mind. I'm always joking with Zard about the "quintessential unassuming, underappreciated bass player," but I think Fruvous appreciate Murray. The fans sure do! At one point last year, though, there did seem to be some kind of conspiracy surrounding Murray. It seemed at almost every show I saw that he got the mic that didn't work, got no spotlight, or had a low hanging ceiling that prevented him from jumping around. I think it was the "league of accordion players" trying to distract attention (jk). chris **** "And where would we be without a bass guitarist?" And what's wrong with flying to NYC for the weekend? That sounds normal to me. Then again, I flew to London to get a book, so my definition of "normal" may not be that close to many other people's. Anyway, that was before I discovered the joy of Fruvous. Now that I am in the land of Fru, I no longer fly to other continents for reading material. I fly to Massachusettes to go trick-or-treating. > You people are all nuts.
