Hey, the Quill hasn't made it to my humble outpost of Philadelphia yet either, and Jude told me she was mailing one directly to me on Oct. 2. So I don't think it's just a plot against the molehill capital of the world. Must be something else. Evil U.S. customs guys weeding out Canadian content in retaliation for MuchMusic's CanCon programming. US Postal Service refusing to deliver mail stamped with devalued currencies. Or something. I didn't think that was what you meant. Actually, I guess I was sort of rubbing it in that I'm in NE and you're wishing you were. :-) To me, rain and no rain can each signify a good Fall. It's the smell that counts, and the feel of the air. And you're right: Spring rain vs. Fall rain, there's a huge difference! > of course, it's been a while since i had a fall since i was in nicaragua last > autumn and somehow 95 degrees and rainy does not imply fall to me. Ah, well, I cannot compare to that. I've never been anywhere but here in the Fall. Or any other time, really! > apologies for the lack of frucontent... Okay, frucontent... Hm... Must be what, ten of them in Zanesville alone? And it's not *that* big a town. Oddly enough, I do like glassware and ceramics. This time of year the outlet should have some great Halloween decorations. Little terra-cotta pumpkins that hold tealight candles and whatnot. And since some of you are privileged enough to be attending a certain Halloween shindig (humph!) this might be what you could consider a Really Useful Tip. >Oh, and they have those weird trashcans, but I see little tourist value in >that. ;) I must confess, I didn't notice their trashcans -- although I did once check out trash storage and collection practices in Beverly Hills, just to see how much it differed from that of mere mortals. (In addition to matching trash -- um, they're not cans, they're more like ... canisters, they have matching, hanging flower baskets in the back alleys of Beverly Hills. Where I live they have clotheslines. Which answered my query, I think.) - -- Lori (who is so completely off topic, I don't know if even Cos can help me now, (unless he comes up with something wonderful from River Valley, peut-etre.)) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Oct 1998 19:23:35 GMT From: hugrod@home.com (Hugo Rodrigues) Subject: Re: Posting lyrics of unfinished songs In article <3624b599.180055768@news3.ibm.net>, ceelove@ibm.net (Colleen Campbell) wrote: >I won't post lyrics to the new songs out of respect for what I believe >to be the band's wishes, but there's nothing inherently wrong with >posting new lyrics in general. Well... legally speaking the taboo from posting the lyrics (as explained previously?) is that if they haven't been officially published by the band they are not copyrighted, meaning that someone else can maliciously go out and copyright the song before the band does and end up making the buck in royalties. Then the band wouldn't get the SOCAN money for that song if it ever played on Canadian (or foreign) radio. As for legalities of being sued for publishing the band's work, as long as all work is properly referenced (ie: author/writer/performer/arr. by) your ass is safe, so to speak. That goes for published material -- as for unpublished material, who knows. Dial-a-lawyer. Personally, I don't think it's a big offense to satisfy an urge by posting the lyrics. However, I know that in Canada anything published on the Internet is subject to the same laws as if it were published on paper. So I guess if someone really had no time on their hands, they could persecute me for breaching publication laws / libelling / plaigering on the Internet.
