I hate to tell Indiana's secret, but really all that is just proganda sent over to Illinois to get more tourists. Really, we only got corn too. Bought my tix to the Vault for Nov. 9 (I know a few e-mails said Nov. 11, but it IS Nov. 9, yes?) and am anxiously awaiting losing my Fruginity (if truth were to be told, probably more anxiously awaiting this than that other one). Hoping for "Gulf War" and/or Spidey, my faves (have even changed the name of my rotisserie baseball team to Spidey the Fun-Licker) but would be happy even to hear "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" (LOL, NRBQ did this once at the Ritz and of course only Q-folk appreciated the intent. Others just booed). Of course, it must be segued with "Gord's Gold." Anyway, had to throw in my tiny little two cents on the Jonatha-Jennifer strand ... the two met while members of a woman's a capella band at Amherst College called the Sabrinas and I WAS AN ORIGINAL SABRINA!!!! Of course I only lasted in the group about a month before quitting -- my freshman year and I had overextended on the extracurricular side and ended up just sticking to radio. OK. As if anyone cares. :) Lisa ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Oct 1998 08:30:51 -0500 From: Chad Maloney Subject: Re: Irving Plaza Jacey7 wrote: > I'm *really* new to this band (as in I bought "Live Noise" blind off of > reccomendations, and still can't figure out the words to half the songs... ;-) > but I'm pretty pyched. Anyone want to tell me what I can expect? Hi Jen!!! Welcome! To help in those lyrics deciphering, you can check out http://www.fruvous.com, the treasure trove of all things Fruvous. It has more than enough information to satiate the most rabid information hound and Chris O'Malley is so durned nice that he deserves our web hits, you know? As for what to expect at the show, if we knew, we wouldn't keep going to so many shows *grin* Honestly, the live show is the bread and butter (almost wrote meat and potatoes, but remember I was a vegetarian) of the band. Live Noise is probably as close as you can come on CDs. You can check out the Live Show reviews on FDC (that's the shorthand for fruvous.com). Chris puts up all reviews and local paper clipping and everything people send him about each show. You can read some reviews to get an idea about the shows work... Hope that helps! - Chad ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Oct 1998 08:46:51 -0500 From: Chad Maloney Subject: Re: Tonight's Webcast :) (Chicago show) Zack Widup wrote: > > (3)One word: "request-o-matic" *ROTFL* > > This improv song came about because someone in the audience kept shouting > out requests, and then Murray said we can do any and all requests. Yeah, it was hilarious because Mur hits the fuzz box and Chris Traugott and I immediately go to Michigan Militia mode. Then someone off to the right yells for Michigan Militia and we start laughing. Mur takes it in stride and acts like they are fullfilling the request =) Then they realize the banjo is broken so they go off into this long improv. I loved if when the Request-O-Matic kept breaking and playing 3 or 4 songs at once at different speeds and telling the requesters to F**k off. Anyways, I sure hope I have the time review that one. It was a good show! - Chad ------------------------------ Date: 12 Oct 1998 14:50:15 GMT From: "amy" Subject: Re: Folk Survivor show? OK, I can't resist going further off-topic with this, sorry -- just wanted to let you know, Dante, you're definitely not alone! I think Francis Dunnery is a hoot -- "Too Much Saturn" was the first song of his I heard, and I bought that CD on the spot. Saw him a couple of times (including this past summer, the same weekend I saw Fruvous for the first time -- so maybe this isn't *totally* off-topic :) ) and he's quite a character as well, really charming and funny. I also admire that he's so *out-there* about being in recovery. I remember thinking how great it was to see Fruvous and Francis in the same place (and wouldn't that be a great double-bill?) -- good fun! Just a little FYI - when on the NYS Thruway there is no sign that actually says Clinton is an exit. The exits are Rome, Westmoreland, and Utica (in that order going east from Syracuse). I'm not sure which is NY 233 but I believe it is the Westmoreland exit. If coming from the actual city limits of Utica, Clinton is about 15-20 minutes Southeast. Just didn't want anyone to get lost (grew up in Utica so I drive it quite often to see the Parents). KAC is a great venue but very small. Getting tix soon is advised (150-200 max). Hello fellow Fru Sluts, It took us so darn long to commit to going to the two Northampton shows that they are now sold out. Down in DC, MF has a good following, but we have NEVER had trouble getting tickets. I guess they're more popular in New England. I am so sad. I may need to take the rest of the day off to recover. I need THREE TICKETS to both shows. Jeepers, at this point, I'd take three to _either_ show. Charge us more than the $14 per. We don't care. => We just want to be there. Email me offline at laura@surety.com (thanks!). I need your help. Boy, do I sound pathetic. Well, I am! Please help me to NOT be pathetic anymore... ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Oct 1998 12:51:59 -0400 From: Jun Nogami Subject: chicago show I just wanted to add a few impressions of the Chicago show. All in all it was a great evening. It blew me away how the band can put out so much energy for almost two hours, plus encores. This is the third time that I've seen MF at Martyr's, and every time the crowd gets bigger, though I guess that since the concert sold out, last night was about as packed as it would get. The band really fed on the energy of the crowd, and they also tried to reach out to their "larger audience" on the web. Count me in as a relatively serious fan: not like you frufolk in the front, center stage. I salute you for your energy and devotion! I was happier hanging back in the fourth row with the missus. Which brings me to the one sore point of the evening: there seemed to be more pushy people in the crowded than I've seen before: you know, the type that decides during the set that they have the right to push their way into the crowd in front of you where you've been standing since the beginning and all the way through the Nields' set. I am starting to understand why people hang out just in front of the stage. Maybe it's just a big city / Chicago thing, but it makes me think fondly of the less crowded days. I wish every success to the band, i.e. big crowds, but I'll always remember the show they did in Milwaukee to about thirty of us, with Mike scampering around our table, throwing small bits contact explosive into my beer. I'll probably catch them more at venues like the Ark, where everyone sits and listens. I know that it's now as much fun in a lot of ways, but being able to really listen to the music has its benefits too. High points for me: Mike with Minnie the Moocher. Mike really was on fire all night, thought it's a mystery to me why he spit into the crowd at one point. Dave with the Jane Sibbery bit during the request-o-matic improv. The sixtyish guy standing beside us with his mouth hanging open in delight for most of the evening. "I shall be released" with the Nields. The winner of the chess set has already been mentioned. Thanks to the bands, and all you frufans for a terrific evening. Jun Nogami ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V1 #776 ********************************************
