My point exactly. See, it's not just Lizzie and me -- this happens to *lots* of us. (I don't *think* Skip's implying he's a groupie/slut. :) ) On another note: they played in a church? did they keep it clean? because they're playing a church in Wilmington too, and I'd hate to see it cause them/us/church elders a lot of problems if they get carried away linguistically. My only album was a copy of the indy release at the time , though I bought the rest that night. I talked with Toby and Dave as to whether or not the band was likely to autograph my copy of Green Eggs and Ham , and the general consensus was that if they had time , it was pretty likely. Doors opened and we all poured into the theatre and I headed toward the front, where I met Leah, Rob, and Jason; and had a seat. The set list Jordan posted matches mine, so I won't bore you with repetition. This was my first show and it truly impressed me in many, many ways. Message- I know it's a common opening for them, but to hear it live for the first time is a very cool thing. Boss- Hearing this acapella was really a lot of fun for the audience , and as far as acapella goes , the group was very tight at this show in general. Pisco- Is this song ever not invigorating to listen to? My choice for the next album, as if I get a vote. Militia- The person I brought fell into this groove easily, as did most of the crowd. How is it that a song whose contents make me so insecure about the political choices about my countrymen makes me want to dance so much? King- Fun to see live for the first time, although next time they're in town they may want to remember that Mile-High doesn't have 'turf, it's grass. Gulf- The above comments on the acapella talents of the group cannot begin to describe the impact this encore had on the audience. The sincerity and relevancy of this tune still haunts us today, 6 years after we first heard this on the indy release. This was the tune that in my mind elevated Moxy past the ranks of humor bands (TMBG, Arrogant Worms, etc.) and into the ranks of performers who make a meaningful impact with a few well chosen words such as Waits, Cohen, and Collins. The devastating effects of this rendition were in evidence in the faces of the audience long after the show. Always a nice thing to see a down-to-earth band that is genuinely approachable and appreciative of their fans. Oct 3rd- Colorado Rocky Mountain School (Big Silver Barn) -Carbondale CO After a 4 ½ hr trip to Carbondale, we arrived at what was indeed a giant tin-roofed barn, and immediately proceeded to begin waiting in earnest. Along with me on this trip was my good friend Bob from Buffalo NY who introduced me to the band via the indy cassette which he picked up at a Moxy show in Toronto in '92. We again met up with Fruheads Leah, Rob, and Jason; and later were introduced to Katherine (sp?). I had heard about these concerts in advance, and had asked to be seated as close to the stage as possible. I got my wish as I was led to table 9, directly in front of the center stage. On my ticket I was instructed to bring my own mug, so I journeyed to a lavish refreshment table and was told that my mug was too large to be serviced by their limited establishment without a much more significant cash donation. As I paid $5 for my cup of what seemed to be Sanka, I had my Frumiles card stamped by Toby, and began to listen to the 15 min oratory by the school's Arts director. Again, Jordan's set list matches what I remember, so no repetition, just the highlights. Jockey- I have the honor of having heard Waits do this song once (Chicago , I think), and I'm pretty sure he would like this rendition, at least a little. Spiderman- What is Moxy's official stand on tapers? Because this pyrotechnic portion of the show would have intimidated me a little had I been Jason. Allow me just to add that I'm not easily intimidated by much. Hold- I have to agree with Jordan here, it grows on you. Jian wasn't the only one in the barn who looked like he was going to cry. Pisco- More fun every time I hear it! Potion- Noticed something the 2nd time I heard this- "looks like turpentine and smells like India ink," I think the original line was "smells like turpentine, looks like india ink," because turpentine looks a lot like water but smells horrid and India ink doesn't smell like anything in particular. Was this on purpose? Drinking- Fun to hear as a Sing-a-long. Well, Bob got his book signed and we drove back in what seemed to be some of the foulest weather Colorado could throw at us, but a solid show for the band. Oct 4th-Fox Theatre-Boulder CO Let me start this review with an expression of my gratitude to the Fruheads that made the journey out to CO. You folks have every right in the world to try and keep knowledge of the band your intellectual property, and not let anyone into your clique. Instead, you were all truly open and helpful to an initiate into the flock of Fruvous. Rob, Jason, Katherine (sp?), Robert, Dave, Leah, and Toby; you seven especially were incredible as far as welcoming all of us Colorado newbies to the joys of the music we now share. We know why you kept Fruvous to yourselves for so long, and you will never know how much we appreciate you sharing them with us. I don't want to lose contact with any of you, so here's the email for anyone who doesn't have it - allanjwhite@juno.com. Anytime you're in town in the future, you all have a place to stay. And I expect to see you all in Colorado whenever Moxy comes back through this bucolic paradise. I wandered around the entire show with a camera weighing me down to find that I had bought color film from a recalled batch. All the black -and - white came out ok, but the color film was exposed in shipping to lovely Colorado and came out like an acidhead's art project. Once again, no new addition to Jordan's set list. (Nice job, Jordan!) Sahara- Really a neat opening, glad I got to see this. Fly- Man, is this song powerful live. Great tune, and it kinda tugs a little at my heartstrings. Johnny- Still an impressive bit of linguistic exercise, and it's got a good beat that you can dance to- I give it an 86. -Commentary on yell that sounded nothing like Indians, but quite a bit like Xena on Heroin- Car- Very nice rendition, the entire crowd seemed to like this one. No encore this show. I think we understand why, but that doesn't mean I like it. Notes to Self: Plug this band to everyone with ears. Get e-mail from all the fruheads I met. See the band and the fans as soon as possible. Thank the band. I don't think any of us were talking > about that. (I know I wasn't, and Katrin seems more interested in her > husband.) I didn't mean that either. I mean, the guys are nearly twice my age. But still, it is fun to have crushes on people, isn't it? I don't think that means I'm a groupie/slut. I think the tongue-tiedness has more to do with feeling on-the- > spot, not knowing quite what to say, and not wanting to sound like an > idiot when you finally open your mouth. Yes! Thank you! I am possibly the shy-est person anyone has ever met. I can just barely manage to talk to every-day people I don't know real well. And as for the guys, I don't know them at all AND I really admire them. So I didn't mean for any of what I said to be taken the wrong way, and I'm going to shut up about it now. On a different subject (i keep doing this, I know I should probably star another e-mail thing, but i am being lazy), I was trying to listen to the web broadcast that is probably going on right now, and my realaudio player kept getting all fuzzy and crackly and not working and finally my screen froze. I took this as a sign that I should be working on my math homework, and not fooling around on the computer, but I brought my math upstairs with me, and tried the computer again, and it just wasn't working. Did anyone else have problems with it or is my computer just screwed up? love Lizzie ------------------------------ End of alt.music.moxy-fruvous digest V1 #738 ********************************************
